Administering Interferon Alpha

Hello All, Quick question - can Interferon Alpha be put in canned food, or does it have to be given directly into the mouth? Everything I've read seems to indicate that it has to be given directly, targeted at the tonsils? Thanks, Marlene Pekoe Angel Digby

Hi Marlene, I was hoping I could mix Interferon into food at one time too.  I've also been told that it has to be given orally.  It doesn't have to be aimed at the tonsils though.  It's tasteless and if you are gentle and slow it's one of the easiest sups/meds to give.  You can use an eye

Hi Nina, I am able to get my Interferon Alpha from the Veterinary Compounding Pharmacy that our vet clinic deals with. They apparently had some frozen from another client I guess. They will be dispensing it at the dosage I need, and said they can also flavour it - Chicken, Liver or Beef.

Marlene, I wouldn't bother with having the Interferon flavored. Taste it, it's just like water. There's a chance that Pekoe won't like the flavoring and then you've defeated the purpose! There's no reason not to try it, as far as I've been able to find out. It can't hurt and it just might
