[Felvtalk] cRe: Home For Life Animal Sanctuary in western Wisconsin
Before taking any animal to any sanctuary research the place and definetely try to talk with people who have been there personally. I would also do this if I was in your situation. My boyfriend also rescued an FeLV cat. He heard about Home from Life from a guy that works at Best Friends sanctuary in Utah. Best Friends is a sanctuary that also accepts FeLV cats but right now they are full. I also want to know more about Home for Life. Is the sanctuary in western Wisconsin or Minnesota? Their website says Minnesota but when I e-mailed them their reply was that they are located in western Wisconsin. Confusing. Hopefully someone here knows more about Home for Life. --- On Thu, 7/16/09, Reyna Castano rcpin...@yahoo.com wrote: From: Reyna Castano rcpin...@yahoo.com Subject: Re: [Felvtalk] Home For Life Animal Sanctuary in western Wisconsin To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Date: Thursday, July 16, 2009, 8:32 PM I rescued an FeLV cat and after weeks and weeks of searching for a sanctuary I found two that can take him in. Home for Life and 'Not So' Purrrfect Angels in Fresno (CA) are the two places I found. The issue with Home for Life is that is too far from CA and I can't take him there personally. Therefore, I would like to speak to someone who personally know the place. I need to know if HFL is a good place for my FeLV kitty. Purrrfect Angels is only a 3 hour drive from L.A. but the FeLV room is very small. It can only house 6 cats. Right now they have two. lots of places on the WI/MN border have one mailing address and another physical one. and many sanctuaries, because of the problem with dumping, do NOT give out their actual physical location to the general public. -- Spay Neuter Your Neighbors! Also remember that even if someone you know well trust visited a sanctuary X months ago, with escalating populations, things can change/snowball...hindsight is very sadly 20/20...speaking from experience. my babies are all buried in my flower gardens. have them scattered about in many gardens as i have had to bury many babies in the last 28 years, 2 dogs and 7 cats. they all loved to stroll throgh the flowers, so i decided to bury them there. dorlis Diane Rosenfeldt drosenfe...@wi.rr.com wrote: A garden is a lovely idea. I didn't know how much I needed the support until I got it! It seems that so many people have not had a special relationship with a pet where they can relate to the hole that their passing leaves and that has been frustrating to me. This week is a better week as we are starting to be able to think lovingly about her and laugh about funny things she did! We miss her still and plan to make a beautiful garden for her over her gravesite. I am looking forward to planning out something lovely to honor her. I will take your words of wisdom and just keep loving the other baby like there is no tomorrow! He is spoiled rotten these days...he even sleeps in our bed now (which my husband never would have allowed before J) We hope that he stays symptom free for many years as we hear CAN happen. I found By Nature at Petsmart. you might contact them atwww.bynaturepetfoods.com to get a retailer in your area. they might even sell direct. dorlis Sander wrote: Thanks for your help. Sissy, one of my house 2 y/o, has always had swollen lymph glands. Rocket, her sister, does not have any symptoms. From what I have read here, it seems some kitties are just genetically better able to cope with the disease. Maybe they have stronger immune systems. Since all of mine come from the same dumpster colony I do not expect any of them to see 20. I am happy for each good day we have. I've lost cats to CRF, heart disease and a dog attack in addition to FeLV. I learned to treasure each day we have together. Worrying about the future doesn't help me or the cats.
