It is with a broken heart that I am posting to say that Spanky lost his battle with FELV and lymphoma on New Year's eve day. He had a seizure earlier in the week after taking an appetite stimulant and things went downhill this past week and his phosphorous was so low the vet said they had never seen a cat with low phos like this, and he developed severe non-regenerative anemia. His type of lymphoma was fast growing and he wasn't able to have a chemo treatment for weeks either. Thank you so much to everyone on this list, your kitties, your angels for all the help and support and love you've shown to us. You were an absolutely wonderful support network. Without this group we wouldn't have tried the LCTI imulan, interferon or the many supplements we learned about like Transfer factor etc. I wish all of you the best in 2011 and beyond and will purray your furbabies stay as healthy as they possibly can. Stacy, Sending prayers for you and a warm welcome to Rainbow Bridge to Spanky from all his fellow furpals. I'm comforted to know my little furbaby is there and here in spirit. I've been missign her so much. It helps to have this this webpage to talk to people in similar circumstances, especially during the holidays. Yes, they are Angles. Hi, The LTCI injection that Aggie gets are given in her hind leg area. Not up on the medical lingo--but it looks just like a regular vaccination type shot. It is not given intravenously, or under the skin like fluids. Hope this helps. Re: [Felvtalk] LTCI Injections
Perhaps there are different protocols for different situations, but when we were giving our little ones LTCI, we were directed by our vet (who had spoken with the lab techs with LTCI) to give it sub-q. Sounds like it's intravenous, aka in the vein, so I would not be permitted/able to do that. Things like the pepcid or sub q fluids are in the skin, so the pet parents are allowed to do these, if they are willing. Guess that crosses Whimsy off the list since taking him to the vet gives him flashbacks! thanks, again, Andy! Aggie is lucky to have you. Re: [Felvtalk] LTCI injections
Hi Shannon, It isn't intravenous at all. When I said it wasn't under the skin like like fluids, I just meant that it wasn't done between shoulder blades. It is usually given in her hind flank. Here is the info from the product insert: Lymphocyte T-Cell Immunomodulator is administered by subcutaneous injection of 1 ml upon diagnosis of the presence of FIV or FeLV disease. I know a great many people who give the shot themselves--and it isn't into the veins. Sorry I was so darn confusing! Hopefully the second time is the charm!
