Re: [Felvtalk] Rehome one-year-old grey cat

2015-05-09 Thread dlgegg
If youi can afford it, keep him/her. I have a nine year old that was diagnosed
at age 4. She is still healthy as can be. None of my other cats has
contracted FELV.

Hello, I am trying to find new homes for my sisters cats that she has been
taking care of for a year now. The next door neighbor complained and was
going to have them picked up by animal control. Therefore I had them brought
to my garage by the help of a Cat rescue inc. volunteer. I have been trying
to get help for adoption of five cats. Unfortunately I had one of them fixed
yesterday and he is diagnosed with feline leukemia. Trying to find a new home
 for him. Any suggestions?

Re: [Felvtalk] Someboday caught a chipmunk?!?!

2015-05-09 Thread dlgegg
Seems to me it is a good sign. Soe\mehow, one of them had what it takes to
catch something.
Right now, my Harley is laying on the desk playing with my fingers as I type.
My guys follow me all around the house and Harkey loves to play with the
mouse on the monitor.
I pray that your boys will get well enough for these antics soon. I lose 3 in
the last couple of years and I know how hard it is.

Last night, I brought Brock Harley their late night meal. Harley got

distracted, especially Harley, who parked in a cardboard box that is on
its side. I set Harley's food on the box flap, but after a while he
turned around and almost laid his tail in the food. I removed the food,
and reached in to see what toy Harley wanted to play with so much in the
back of the box. Usually I have a toilet paper tube in there, sitting
upright, with a ball on top to be knocked off. But he was ignoring
those. Without getting a good look first, I pulled out something
fuzzy...a dead chipmunk! What the??? OK, I have one FeLV+ boy with a
serious heart condition and no front claws (Brock). And Harley can see
out of only one eye, has balance issues sometimes, and cannot open his
mouth far enough to bite anything, but he does have claws. Chipmunks
move fast, are very agile, can jump, and hard enough even for a healthy
cat to catch. I have no idea how it went down, only that it must have
happened in the 4 hours since I had visited with them last.

Re: [Felvtalk] cat with leukemia to rehome

Hi Maria,
Does he have leukemia, or the feline leukemia virus? They are different
things.
It will help our group to know where you or your sister live.

Leukemia is not as bad as many vets would have you believe. Yes, it is
serious but can be dealt with. When Annie was diagnosed, my vet told me
that I had 2 choices; pout her down or keep her and watch carefully for
signs of the disease along with vaccinating my other cats for FELV. Annie
hs never had any problems. I had one other that showed up at my house with
a lot of problems. She had her tail bitten off by a raccoon, was close to
starving. With good food, clean water and a house to live in, she lasted
over 2 years. She died from a UTI and stones. Please explain to possible
adopters that this is not a death sentence. With good food, care and love,
this kitten could last many years.
