Poor Katrina babies nice to have you back. If they have unexplained diarrhea and nothing traditional cures them, I have NEW info on a PIG parasite that is now confirmed as zoonotic to cats (I'm battling it now with my rescue cats). If nothing else works, it's worth testing for. It's Trichomonosis, and the only long term cure is still in experimental stages. Re: I'M BACK
Jenn I would be very interested in hearing about that. You can never learn too much. Stools are ALWAYS a issue with cats The first two Katrina kittens had bright green and I mean green poop. My vet put them on flagyl and Zithromax. Second set of kittens well that's another set of problems all together
Re: location
Thanks Amy--I really do hope he got a home...I just worried that he'd been euthanized, for lack of transportation. I have no idea how much that happens--(does anyone know?) There's a delay re the NJ FeLV human-friendly cat I was going to take--handover was to happen last Wed but now we need to wait till URI clears up. There's also another human-friendly FeLV I *may* be taking if his new home doesn't work out. If anything changes I'll be back in touch re the kittens you have. Bless you for all you do. I wrote you and then somehow we lost touch. I would have been able to get him to you but the people never got back to me. I talked to another person locally and she was meeting the cat to see about taking him. I'm 99% sure she took him but I'm waiting for them to follow up. I know they would have contacted me by now if he still needed a place to stay. I'm guessing no news is good news. Thanks for the offer! If you have any openings or know anybody else that keeps positives, I'm waiting on a litter of kittens that my vet is trying to catch and I know they will be positive for something. I have the 2 adults that were hanging around where the kittens are located. My female is FIV pos and the male is FeLV pos so I'm guessing somewhere out in the wild they bred and that the kitties floating around may be positive. They all showed up at my vet's farm. Just to clarify so it doesn't sound like I'm breeding them... My girl showed up unspayed. My vet caught her, spayed her, and I adopted her. Later, my male showed up, intact. She caught him, neutered him, and I adopted him. Now these other kittens are coming around, not babies but younger cats. Since I know the 2 cats I adopted are positive, I'm guessing some of the kittens may be too. Never know though, maybe they never came in contact. --- MacKenzie, Kerry N. For cats, we crate them and send a litter box. For dogs, we allow for potty breaks. Most of the transport coordinators have volunteers along the desired route that agree to help out. I tend to go between NY, OH, KY, PA, etc. so most of my volunteers are in those areas. Re: Grace update
Nina, I hope Grace continues to improve. I know how it feels to be so overwhelmed with animals! Just take it one day at a time. Hopefully the holistic vet will be helpful. I took my first positive, CC, to a holistic vet when she was sick the first time and it was very helpful. Take care of yourself. Let the house go a bit... but not enough that we see you on the evening news! ha. tonya --- Nina [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'm sorry I haven't been able to keep up with the list. Just to many things on my plate. I feel like no matter how early I get up, or how late I go to bed, I still can't get done what needs to be done. Looking at the state of my house, you'd assume I was sitting on my butt eating bon bons and watching TV. Grace's vet visit yesterday went really well, at least as far as the trauma involved. She was such a good girl! My Internist gave her a thorough physical exam, and except for the fact that she's lost 2 lbs and her eyes were unevenly dilated, she said she looks really good, (her breathing is fine, no swollen lymph nodes, etc.). She couldn't tell if Grace still has a heart murmur, because she was purring too loud to hear her heart properly! What an angel my Gracie is. The Internist said we could do blood work, but unless there's a problem with one of her organs, which neither one of us thinks there is, it wouldn't show anything conclusive. She suggested putting her on Baytril, sent me home with subq fluids, (even though she's not dehydrated), and Dex shots, (just in case). She also gave me some samples of novel protein dry foods for Grace to try, (she's not eating and she's always liked dry food, so what the heck). I'm trying to finish up the questionnaire from the holistic practitioner, so we can get started on that. Grace did eat a bit last night and seems to have a renewed desire to fight. I feel more hopeful this morning. I just gave her her first dose of Baytril, syringed some babyfood, colostrum and Nutrical down her, (not enough, the darn syringe stuck and I put too much pressure on it so it exploded food all over my hand), and put some transdermal Cypro on her ear. I think her belly is bothering her, so I may try a 1/4 Pepcid later. Love and prayers to all those in trouble, and those of you who aren't as well! Nina

Terri, I'm so sorry to hear about Salome. Please don't you and Dan second guess yourselves. That's one of the things so bad about leukemia. Sometimes it just hits so fast. Salome had a wonderful home with you and I know she feels better now and is still sending you both her love. tonya Our Big Beautiful Girl, her Daddy's Salome', has left us for the Rainbow Bridge as of 10:15 AM this morning. She had been doing so well -- was sick only once in her whole life, last summer. She got over that URI all by herself, without antibiotic. She stopped eating just about 5 days ago. No visible reason, but then she started vomiting, and had loose stool. We finally took her to the vet on Wednesday thinking maybe she had swallowed something that was causing stomach distress. We checked her for blockage, and ran a blood panel. X-rays were clear. Some distension due to gas, but no foreign objects or anything. However, her white cell count was 8, her kidneys were not functioning to capacity, and her liver was in end stage failure. We brought home an anti-emitic and amoxi-drops, but she still refused to eat, would not allow force feeding, and vomited up the medication. This morning, she had bloody diarrhea and bloody urine. Her Daddy (my husband Dan) finally saw that he needed to end her pain. Her bottom was all swollen and leaky and her bones were starting to show. She was looking hollow -- not much of her left when she would make eye contact. I have a splitting headache. My husband is weeping, and beating himself up over this, even though we know that she was suffering and is now free from her pains. Now she is free to romp and play with her sisfurs and her brofurs that have gone before her -- especially her litter-mate Ruthie-Girl, who has been waiting for her sisfur Salome' at the Rainbow Bridge for 9 years. Whether or not she was truly FeLV+ I don't really know -- but I am grateful that I had the privilege of sharing her life on earth. Thanks Tonya, Grace isn't doing very well. She's perked up, as far as being in her body more, but she won't eat and I just can't force any more food down her, it's just too stressful. I thought about a feeding tube, but my sweet little Grace has been fighting off and on, for her whole life. I don't know, I just don't think it's the right thing to do. Of course, watching her starve to death doesn't feel right either! I keep expecting her to snap out of it somehow and come back to health. I'm praying for a miracle. My Internist sent me home with very little to do. I have to put my faith in something, so I'm putting it in her, (praying that she wants to stay), and in holistic remedies. The person I'm using for holistic advice isn't a vet. I have appointments with two holistic vet practitioner, but they were so busy, I couldn't get in until the end of the month with one and the second week of Oct with the other. I'm on a cancellation list with both of them, but... Anyway, thank you and thank everyone on the list that's pulling for my Gracie and me. It's just not fair that a little kitty has to fight so hard and so often, but thank-whoever-is-in-charge-of-these-things that she found you and doesn't have to go through this struggle on her own. Which doesn't help you, I know--I feel for you, I truly do It's so heartbreaking to watch our furballs suffer. I strongly believe that having such a wonderful and loving human friend as you by her side is what keep her going through thick and thin--my God, Nina, no one--animal or human--could find a truer companion in adversity than you.
