Re: Smokey
Hi, I have been dealing with Bandy's fever problem since last July. That is when I found out he was FIV and Felv+. It would and still does shoot to 105.6 or even 106...I now have some pill form of dexamethasone .75mg...I give him half of one of those and it will keep it down for about a week or sometimes a few days longer than that... He is on interferon daily since last July..and many other supplements that I rotate around...I give him at times some anti-inflammatory supplements, but they just don't keep the fever down...Both his vets say it is due to inflammation caused from the diseases...I can tell by looking at him now when it is up without even taking it...I usually take it though...I have an ear thermometer which registers close to the rectal one...He is and has been on baytril 1/2 dose since last July as well...They say that is ok, but it seems like a very long time for antibiotics... I give him bovine colostrum and lysine daily in every meal...His interferon is mixed with liqui-tinic (pet tinic) too.. His internal med spec. didn't like the fact that we were using dex so much, but back then it was injections weekly and much stronger...cause over use can cause him to become a diabetic...but since we lowered the dose I am hoping it won't...I don't like to see him feel so rotten with the fever so I am going to take that chance...When he doesn't have a temp, he is as normal as the next kitty and you wouldn't even know he had all this stuff going on with him. Please keep Buster in your thoughts and prayers today... more blood work.. He is eating some now...grilled chicken liver and mashed potatoes..We even ordered his meds in liver flavor since he doesn't like pills, I had my vet call the compounding pharmacy and get it in liquid form...so they over nighted it to me and now maybe that will make it much easier to medicate him without all the stress.. Re: Smokey
Your Brandy's fever sounds like how Smokey is doing. I took him to his new vet yesterday his temp. was 105. It has gotten as high as 107 before. She gave him fluids under the skin, vitamin injection, anti-inflammatory/steroid injection and immuno-regulin injection. She wants to give him the immuno-regulin injection for 4 days. He finally ate this morning and seemed like his self again. Like you I can usually tell when his temp. is up. With him he just lays there and doesn't eat. He doesn't acknowledge me and acts like he just wants to be left alone. This morning I went to feed him and I heard that sweet little meow of his. It was like music to my ears. I just worry about how long his temp. will stay normal. I will tell Smokey's new doctor the different things you are doing for your Brandy. She told me yesterday she is open to any new ideas but she also told me she didn't think little Smokey will live very long. She said she had been proven wrong before and she hopes Smokey will make her out to be a liar. At least she was willing to try to get him through this episode. Thank all of you for your help it has really helped me get through the last 24 hours. I was about to give up hope for Smokey until I found all of you. Re: Smokey
I am so sorry I called your kitty Brandy instead of Bandy. Does he have any side effects with the interferon? I tried a dose of interferon on Monday with Smokey but he got a fever and quit eating so I haven't given him anymore. I didn't know if it could be the interferon or just his fever coming back again. Info on lymphoma in dogs...
I know that you folks have an awful lot of info on cats who develop lymphoma. Have a friend whose dog was just diagnosed and is starting chemo. Does anyone have suggestions on groups, sites, etc. she might go to for info on dogs with lymphoma? She is really worried and anxious to get as much info as she can in order to make informed decisions. Thanks. Chris [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I am trying to help an felv positive kitty. someone found her outside and took her in but she tested positive and now the woman won't keep her b/c she has other negative cats. the cat is probably about 3 years old the vet thinks. she is very pretty and now living in the woman's laundry room. kitty's name is pepper and she is now in the easton, pa area. if anyone is willing to take pepper in please let meknow. she is symptom-free.

My first vet, who is the one who picked up on FELV status, readily admitted to me that he had almost no experience but was willing to work with a NYC med center. That would have been a little tough in terms of transport back and forth and I found a vet who was closer to me who does treat FELV+ cats. He never batted an eyelash about treating Tucson and at least had some experience. I do not have her or Big Boy (my other FELV) on Interferon but that was more of a judgment call on my part based on their personalities and overall situation. One of the ideas for finding more helpful vet is to try to contact local rescue groups, particularly anyone who takes FELV+. Also, when I was changing, I called a number of them to find somebody who was currently treating FELV cats... Re: Bailey Update
Hi Michelle, He is about the same without the diarrhea. Still sleeping alot and little to no energy. Although one of the AC (animal communicators) who also does healing did some work on him yesterday and he did get around more today. He moved more today than he has in quite a while, it was nice to see him moving around. Currently he is getting his Winstrol (anobolic steroid), prednisolone, epogen (3 times a week), Gastriplex, vitamin B complex, folic acid, pet tinic, salmon oil, COQ-10, and we started interferon yesterday. He also gets 100 ccs of fluid every other day. He is maintaining his weight at 8.4 to 8.5 pounds so atleast we aren't losing anymore. Vet is still checking on the chemo for a dosage, but all the other vets she has talked to say the same thing, nothing they have tried really works for this type of anemia, and I guess the wasting and lethargy are symptoms of this. He will get his bloodwork checked again in about 3 weeks. Thanks for asking, not getting much sleep, setting my alarm to feed him every 4 hours. -- Belinda Happiness is being owned by cats ...
