It was only after pulling his teeth that his lymph nodes completely resolved BUT I never did get a third test done, so he may very well still be positive, the test at my vets was about $180.00 a bit expensive, the retest was cheaper.] Here is one explaining the differences between the two: http://www.vin.com/proceedings/Proceedings.plx?CID=WSAVA2003PID=6699O=Generic Here is one associating bartonella with stomatitis: http://www.veterinarydental.com/veterinarians/fel_stom.php Now some on Hemobartonella or feline infectious anemia http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=AA=1692 http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_feline_infectious_anemia.html http://www.vet.uga.edu/vpp/CLERK/Cowgill/Index.htm http://www.petplace.com/cats/feline-infectious-anemia-hemobartonellosis/page1.aspx http://consumer.vetmedcenter.com/consumer/display.asp?fn=P-MR-M-Pa_5-hemobartso1XX.xmldt=A http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=1cat=1314articleid=292 http://www.fabcats.org/anaemia.html http://www.vetcentric.com/reference/encycEntry.cfm?ENTRY=88COLLECTION=EncycIllness http://www.cnycatcare.com/showpracfaq.cfm?FAQID=2275Private=1 That should keep them busy for a while :) -- Belinda happiness is being owned by cats ... Re: How is Bailey doing?
Hi Karen, It is a custom made blend called Zhen Wu Tang Custom Formula made by Dr Mona Boudreaux after my vet described his symptoms. It calls for a 1/4 teaspoon a day. She is in Illinois, she gives continued learning seminars to vets and techs on using chinese herbs in their practices. Re: ImmunoRegulin for Chelsea?
I haven't been able to check my mail lately so this is a late reply. The vets haven't said anything about how long they plan to keep Smokey on the Winstrol or the Equistim. They did mention we might try to start giving the Winstrol injections every 3 weeks instead of every 2 weeks. Smokey's blood work wasn't that bad. I know the first vet said he was anemic but this new vet said his anemia wasn't that bad. Does that make sense? Smokey's only symptoms of being felv+ was his fever and the equistim is working for that. He isn't on any other medicine except for Pet Tinic. He continues to gain weight not alot but he is gaining. He seems to be gaining 2 oz. every 2 weeks. He is up to 6lbs 8oz. When I was taking him to the old vet he weighed around 5lbs 6oz. The new vets seem happy with his results on the equistim. One of the new vets told me the 1st time I took Smokey to her that all you can do is treat him when he gets sick and try to get him through that until the next episode. Smokey is the first kitty I have had that is felv+ so I am still learning about this but does that make sense? Cindy --- Nina [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Cindy, That's wonderful news about Smokey! How long does the vet intend to keep him on Winstrol? I know there are people that treat with equistim, (Immuno Regulin), as a preventative, but because it is a bacteria used to stimulate the immune response, I would think it wouldn't be something that you would want to keep Smokey on indefinitely either. Please tell us more about the protocol you and your vet have chosen for Smokey. Thanks, Nina cindy reasoner wrote: Hi, My Smokey has been on equistim for about 2 months now. He had been tested for felv when I first got him and it was negative but after about a month he started getting fevers. After alot of medications to get the fever down only to have it go back up again the vet decided to check for felv again. This time it was positive. This vet didn't seem to be the best at handling felv+ kitties so I changed vets. The new vet started him on the equistim. The first week I believe he got an injection for 4 or 5 days and now he gets 2 injections a week. He gets them subq. The vet lets me give them to him at home. He also goes to the vet every 2 weeks to get an injection of Winstrol. He has been doing great. He hasn't had a fever since we started him on the equistim. He is gaining weight and has started playing now. He has a great appetite. I hope this helps. Cindy __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Re: hemobartonella question, from another list
Both exist (I can't believe your vets never heard of Hemobartonella) and they are different. Hemo is also know as Feline Infectious Anemia (also called feline hemotropic mycoplasmosis, infection by Hemobartonella felis, or infection by Mycoplasma haemophilus). Bartonella is what causes what is known as Cat Scratch Disease or Cat Scratch Fever. A Google search on hemobartonella and another on bartonella will have many results with lots of info on both. It would appear that Hemobartonella is much more serious. ALL of my local vets have NO knowledge of Hemobart existing, and I assumed it was what they call Bartonella, but if you say it is different, can you tell me what the difference is, so that I can educate them, so THEY can help more cats in the future. Any highly technical papers and studies you can find on the subject of HemoBartonella would be extremely helpful!

I would also carry a towel so you can throw it over their head so they can't really see anything. A pillowcase may work as well.[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: The worst part about flying with cats is that they make you physically remove the cat from it's carrier to inspect the carrier. Midnight needs a home
Hello all, I'm posting this here with permission from the author. It was originally posted on the Yahoo! FeLV+ list. You can check that group to get the original author's e-mail address. If you have trouble finding it, feel free to e-mail me offlist. The post is from Monday, April 17. I wish I were in a position to take Midnight in. I hope one of you can be of help. Thank you, Lance --- I have a beautiful and loving female cat named Midnight. She is probably under 1 year old. My mother found the cat and I took it to the veterinary clinic and they have diagnosed the cat with feline leukemia. I would like to request any information you might have on helping me to suspend the veterinarian's suggestion to put Midnight to sleep. I understand that your organization specializes in recognizing the qualities that animals poses that can add tranquility and therapeutic regimens to patients with special needs. I believe that your organization focuses on not giving up so easily when life seems hopeless. She is not a sickly cat. He said that I would never find her a home because of her diagnosis. I will admit I find animals homes regularly and I have had to deal with putting animals that are in a great deal of pain to sleep, however, Midnight is so very different – she is absolutely loving and sweet. I will donate money to the Animal-Assisted Therapy organization to financially take care of all expenses for a minimum of 6 months towards Midnight's future. Time is ticking because I need to come to an answer quickly because I am currently boarding her at an animal clinic. I cannot take care of her myself because I have two cats and I know that feline leukemia is contagious amongst cats. Please contact me at (713) 501-0499 for more information. I would appreciate it if you could just meet her (I can take her to you) or talk with me. She really is so special. I rarely ask people for anything. I volunteer time and money ALL the time, please if someone could do this one thing for me/her. At a minimum, please contact me with contact information for health care institutions: nursing homes, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, psychiatric institutions who I reach for the same cause. Thank you. ---
JuneAmy, FIV+ please send positive vibes her way (or prayers, if so inclined)
From the FIVCATS2 list, can we add JuneAmy to the CLS, and can anyone send peaceful, and loving vibes her and Pam's direction? At least sweet JuneAmy is passing with the love of an OWNER by her side and not in the shelter where she was for so long... Pam Norman [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: JuneAmy went to the vet hospital in Madison today as an emergency - she has not eaten on her own since Sunday then only a little bit, had had only one poop since Saturday, was starting to have some difficulty breathing. Today she had xrays of abdomen chest, an abdominal ultrasound, bloodwork, fine needle aspirate. The news is all bad very bad. She has large cell lymphoma which is very fast growing. Ini dogs it can literally go from nothing to a critical mass in days; in cats it can be only weeks. Which explains why no one at the clinic ever felt it. There is a huge mass in her abdomen, her liver is "inundated" with cancer (vet's words"), with multiple masses in spleen lymph nodes. Thereis a suspicious spot on one of her lungs (they will analzye that further tomomrrow moning as the lung xrays were taken late), there may be kidney involvement too. The prognosis is very poor. The vet says she is amazed that she is not looking acting much sicker than she does considering the amount of cancer she has. She said that if I had not brought her in, she would probably be gone in days. We discussed options the complicating factors of the FIV. The vet noted that JuneAmy had clearly had a rough life has aged physiologically far beyond her years. Despite the fact that many cats do respond well to chemo for lymphoma, with this particular kind the very best hope for prolonging life is a maximum of 6 months that is generally when the cat is healthy to begin with. She felt that if we treat JuneAmy responds to treatment, we might get a month or two. So more discussion. The Madison oncology protocol in well known in veterinary circles but my vet there felt that JuneAmy could not tolerate it, that it is too aggressive might kill her, given her condition. So what we are doing is tentative. Today she had a subq injectionof 2000 units of l'asparginase she will have 10 mg of prednisone daily for 7 days at which time, if she is responding, they want to see her again would begin some version of the full protocol. If she does NOT respond, then there is no hope whatsoever. And we will know about that in the next few days. If she does not respond, I will let her go. We don't think she is in any pain, but she is uncomfortable depressed. I don't want to prolong that either. If she does respond starts to eat seems to feel better can have that for a few months, then I want to give that to her. But if she does not, then I can't prolong things any further, for her sake. Meanwhile if she wants to eat, she can have anything she wants. I picked up some frozen fish filets in case she would like that. I will get some chicken livers tomorrow if I can, for sauteing. If she doesn't eat on her own, then I will spoonfeed her A/D. I know the cancer is "eating" a lot of what she takes in, but I still have to give her the full component of calories per day. I have some PolyMVA left over from Troika since the expiration date is not until 2008, I will give her that too. This was not the way it was supposed to be. She was supposed to live happily ever after, or at least some years, until some FIV-related thing reared its head. She's been here only a bit over 2 months! I emailed Robert, the shelter owner in NYC where she was for so long, I talked to him on the phone today after I heard the news from the vets. He is devastated. He loves her too.
