anyone ever have a positive turn negative?
Carrie Hi, my cat Mr. Bean (foster kitten I got at 4 wks old)probably at 2-3 yrs old(dont have his vet records handy) started drooling horribly so took to vet and his cbc came back postive. the vet told me to research research research so that's how I found this group adn holisticat website. I put Bean on mega c plus, vit E 200 units daily, a&d once a week, better quality canned food(too many cats to feed raw diet..), no dry food except a lttle as a treat, ambertech ambrotose on advice of my chinese medicine vet and some chinese pills he gave me(sorry long day so dont' remember squat right now)and pet tinic 1xday- last year tested negative--he lost most of his teeth but his fur is beautiful and breath is good. yet the same stuff did not turn Clancy negative--but he no longer has those horrible allergies adn all his fur grew back. Now i have 2 rescued cats down in Georgia who went in today for neutering at low cost clinic and one is fiv+ and one is felv+. the fiv+ i can place but the felv+ has to go back to boarding until our online rescue group can find placement for him. i dont' mind--makes up for the one cat we were going to rescue but it got adopted. yeay! but then the pound called me to say new adopters called to say cat had tested felv+ at vet and vet said to pts. the pound knows our group will look for sanctuary/homes but too late for that cat. at least it did not die in gas chamber. barbara

RE: positive
Nothing is ever 100%. Had one who tested neg as a very young kitten on Elissa—5 years later showed positive. Been an indoor cat her whole life—not exposed to any other cats except the 3 others I had at the time all of whom were neg then and continue to be neg! Two vets told me that with very young kittens, its possible to get a neg on snap test… so go figure. I just sort of stopped worrying about it—figure there are a whole lot more cats out there who are pos than we know about. Hey Jen
Hey Jen, Man, I know that awful feeling of going to a job(s) that you hate!!! It is a horrible feeling. I'm right there with you at this point in my life. And then getting into trouble on top of that... I read a book last month called "Who Moved My Cheese" and it helped me, because my attitude really stunk. I'm not saying yours does. But when I'm not happy with my life, my attitude is not as positive, and this book helped me with that. Also, there's another book called "48 days to the Work You Love" which you might look into. It doesn't sound like you have much time to read, but maybe you could read to Zack. He might like to hear about mice. lol. I don't know how shelter employees/volunteers do what they do either. It IS heartbreaking, and I can't understand how people surrender their pets either. But I know this. In time, all will work itself out. Just be patient and gentle with yourself, and don't lose hope. If you need to vent, I'm always here. :) Wendy __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
Re: CLS Monday April 17th, 2006
some thing to smile about.Well I was not smiling at the time, but in tears, Sunday is my day for me, and I going mountain climbing with some friends, and at the end of the day we have a cheap meal some where. where upon I try to save the scraps off my plate and every one else who has left any thing. Well that's the general ideal any way. Some times if I am Lucky there is meat serve up in a big dish where every one helps them self's, and theres quite a bit left, Oh goodie too shoes, lots for the strays that I call off to on the way home. In Spain there are little groups of cats that hang around the dust bin areas waiting for the chance that the big lids are left open and they can do a bit of rummaging. I know of quite a few pit stops where I can drop my scraps, and have the joy of seeing them devour my offering. I also carry around in the car a few cans of cat food and cheap dry cat nuts, which are added to the offering if it is a lean one. Well this would not be the first time that I have been challenged on the left overs, where upon 3 out of the 10 of my so call friends are so hard up that they wish to take home some of the meat for a sandwich for the next day. (One Lady has just inherit half a house.) Obviously not animal loves. Some of us where still eating, But the left overs had began to take up the converstavion, and I could see that what I had my eye on, was going to disappear into some ones sandwich the following day. So I picked another piece of meat out of the dish and added it to my empty plate. and took a bite out of it, and then stop eating.my so called friend who was sitting opposite me, challenge my action suggesting that I had only taken the meat to prove a point.I was so shock that I did not believe what I had just herd and had to request her to repeat her self. Which she did, Well my god did the shit hit the fan.Quite a few hot words were exchange along side a few swear words from my self, at this stage I was close to tears and not really holding them back too well, ( I think all the up set of losing Tabbs and the last 3 months of my fight for him, and taken its toll. ) I am not normally so up set able While the fire works where flying one of my other friends said that I could have her meat, and that she was only interested in the bones for her neighbours dog. and had started to collect some of the meat from the table, which I think made things even worst. At this stage I felt I was so hurt by what had happen, and also the fact that this had obviously been a on going problem which I had been unaware of. But so petty.Any way I pulled my money out and left a payment for my meal on the table and left empty handed. But as I got to my car my friends husband and another friends dogie wife followed me out to the car with a doggies bag full of all the meat which she gee fully told me she had taken for me. She also told me that I was not wrong and that my friend and been out of order. This made me feel a lot better. But this happen last Sunday, and its only now that I can see a funnier side to it.There was a big satisfaction at the end of my drive home, when I stopped of to put out the pickings, there where 2 of my normal strays that came down from the hiding place to take my offerings. They are too wild for me to touch, and also I do not go every day, as I do not wish too let them down when I am not available for them. also I will be out of Spain, for a month, later in the year. Also they do seem to be coping weight wise quite well. I think taht my be they have another source from else way. My friend who had brought the food out to me when I went to the car, phoned me up later that evening and told me that also the so called friend and also called me a bitch,So I don't think I will be walking with that group of friends for quite some time. Hope that some of you can see a funner side to this. along side the sad side of how sad some people can been regarding the well fair of our felines. Also I know that some of my friends think I am a bit of a standing joke, But I do not care. Take care to you all, wish and praying for you unwell felines, and once again thank you all for all your support over Tabbs troubles.Sandra Tabbs past, plus Suzy one eyed Copper and UK suzy. plus Chang look alike who calls during the night for his food that I have been leaving out for him. Re: JuneAmy, FIV+ please send positive vibes her way (or prayers, if so inclined)
Please pass this on to Pam: As I have mentioned I am having similar problems with Kitty, although she does seem to be hanging tough. Try Nutri-Cal (high calorie dietary supplement). It has the texture of cat lax and apparently cats love the taste. I have to put it on Kitty's nose so she tastes it then she eats a lot off my fingers or a spoon. Once she started eating this she (in a couple of days) started eating Fancy Feast foods that have a lot of gravy (easy in eating). Put JuneAmy's water and food dishes on something to raise them. This will make swallowing easier and take less energy. If you can get the cat to prop up on a towel or something so the front end is higher than the rear it also helps with breathing and swallowing (I know, it is a cat so good luck). Kitty's liver is pressing on her stomach which means acid comes up into her throat causing coughing and a sore throat, same as acid reflux for us. Pepsid works to relieve this. The proper dose per my vet is 1/2 regular tablet 2 times a day. However, I chose to give her a full tablet at times. I can not get her to take the pills the way she should and have chosen not to force them on her regularly. Discuss the pros and cons and right dose with your vet. I have made quality of life decisions that both Kitty and I can live with. Neither of us could live with chemo and some other alternatives. Kitty is in no pain but, at times is uncomfortable. Do not confuse the two. If you have serious doubts you may want to find an animal communicator if that is an area you are open to. FYI: Kitty started having problems in December 2004. On Feb 1, 2005 the specialists felt she would be around a very short time if not treated with chemo. She is still hanging in there and the quality of her life is good. Now, if I could just get her to eat better. This is all said to encourage Pam not to give up and to pass on some things I have learned. PS: A cool spot to lie is really helpful for Kitty. I suspect it settles her gut. There are alternative vets who may have some ideas too. All my prayers and hopes for her and JuneAmy. And JuneAmy sends all of her love and gratitude to Pam. If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow man. St. Francis - Original Message - From: Jenn To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Wednesday, April 19, 2006 9:59 PM Subject: JuneAmy, FIV+ please send positive vibes her way (or prayers,if so inclined) From the FIVCATS2 list, can we add JuneAmy to the CLS, and can anyone send peaceful, and loving vibes her and Pam's direction? At least sweet JuneAmy is passing with the love of an OWNER by her side and not in the shelter where she was for so long... Pam Norman <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: JuneAmy went to the vet hospital in Madison today as an emergency - she has not eaten on her own since Sunday & then only a little bit, had had only one poop since Saturday, & was starting to have some difficulty breathing. Today she had xrays of abdomen & chest, an abdominal ultrasound, bloodwork, & fine needle aspirate. The news is all bad & very bad. She has large cell lymphoma which is very fast growing. Ini dogs it can literally go from nothing to a critical mass in days; in cats it can be only weeks. Which explains why no one at the clinic ever felt it. There is a huge mass in her abdomen, her liver is "inundated" with cancer (vet's words"), with multiple masses in spleen & lymph nodes. There is a suspicious spot on one of her lungs (they will analzye that further tomomrrow moning as the lung xrays were taken late), & there may be kidney involvement too. The prognosis is very poor. The vet says she is amazed that she is not looking & acting much sicker than she does considering the amount of cancer she has. She said that if I had not brought her in, she would probably be gone in days. We discussed options & the complicating factors of the FIV. The vet noted that JuneAmy had clearly had a rough life & has aged physiologically far beyond her years. Despite the fact that many cats do respond well to chemo for lymphoma, with this particular kind the very best hope for prolonging life is a maximum of 6 months & that is generally when the cat is healthy to begin with. She felt that if we treat & JuneAmy responds to treatment, we might get a month or two. So more discussion. The Madison oncology protocol in
