Thank you folks, I was just a bit worried, receiving nothing from the
list is not usual... A couple of times in the past my ISP came up with
the idea of Felvtalk being a spam source and subsequently filtering it,
I just wanted to be sure this was not the case :)

Prayers for Mini and Mowgli. What are their symptoms? How old are they
and what do they look like?

fleas, Frontline and FeLV

2006-05-30 Thread Lance
One of our dogs has the tell-tale little black nits in the fur on
her neck that indicate fleas are incoming. We're going to treat her
tomorrow with Frontline. My father is convinced that none of the
other animals should be treated if they don't have fleas.

My Ember is FeLV+, and while she is generally isolated from the other
animals, the one dog who has the nits is occasionally in the room
adjoining ours with my mom, so that the two have space that overlaps.
I worry about the possibility of Hemobartanella. Ember is four years
old and currently asymptomatic. Should I treat her with Frontline,
just in case she's had exposure?

Re: Mini and Mowgli

I need to share the story of my cat,
Spaz, with all of you. Perhaps it will help someone out there. Spaz
was diagnosed at 8 years of age with leukemia. She was an indoor-only cat,
except for one summer when she was a kitten, from about 8-10 months of
age. Her PCV was down around 7%, and my vet gave her an injection of
prednisolone. The response was almost immediate, and by the next morning,
I had a totally different cat on my hands! She was totally fine for over
two andhalf years, then had a mild bout with anemia again. We dealt
with that through pred. tablets. Six months after that, she had another
serious bout with anemia, andour new vet (we had moved) gave her
Depo-Medrol. It had zero effect. It's a rather long story, but I
could not remember the name 'prednisolone' at this time and could not get my old
vet's office to look up her records. We tried Interferon and Winstrol,
which did not help. I FINALLY got the info. from my old vet, but was told
by them and every vet I talked to that Depo-Medrol and prednisolone will do the
same thing. Fortunately, my vet was willing to try anything I wanted, and
we did, and it worked again! So I feel it is of the utmost importance to
let people know that they DO NOT necessarily react the same when they supposedly
should. As for Spaz, she suffered some mild problems and a rough upper
resp. infection after this, but she now has been perfectly healthy for over two
years again. She's almost14 now! I feel so tremendously
fortunate, and I just hope I can help someone else.

Re: fleas, Frontline and FeLV

2006-05-30 Thread Pam Norman
I would treat with both. I asked my vet about this just last week as I've
been using Revolution regularly on all my cats, but I asked him about
whether it adequately protected my Gus (who nearly died from hemobart in
2004) from ticks. I was very surprised when he told me that Revolution does
nothing to repel ticks. But Frontline does. So after talking to him, I am
continuing the Revolutoin for all the cats because of its anti-flea
anti-parasite (worms) effectivelness. I 'll dose everyone on the first of
the month then in the middle of the month I will dose Gus with Frontline.
You might want to talk to your vet about a similar regimen.

Oh well. We just treated Ember. I decided to take the plunge, after
reading some things about the Frontline and Advantage on the web. It
actually ended up being Advantage that we have, so that's what Ember
got a dose of. Hopefully this will give her protection while we sort
out whether or not we have any fleas at all. We were unable to find
fleas on the dogs, though flea poop was found on one of them earlier.
