Re: OT: Re: Polydactyl's
Wendy, KC has a complete extra toe in between his thumb and other toes, it is complete with retractable claw. And yes he definitely thinks that makes him special, in fact the king around here! The vet has checked it and said it looks like it works just like the rest of his claws and I keep an eye on it to make sure the claw doesn't start growing into his pad but so far it never has. LuLu does not do much with her paws but walk around real cute like. lol. Do either of you have issues with an extra nail growing between the thumb and the other toes on the front paws. -- Belinda happiness is being owned by cats ... OT: OOPS, I HAVE BEEN ON PETFINDERS AGAIN...
Hi Guys, Well, here I am at my computer, dinking around, going to very dangerous places for me...Sometimes I just click petfinders .com and check out the POLYS, my big passion. Sadly, I see that the mom to my kittens, Lovey is still waiting for a forever home, in a foster home situation, in Arizona. I know she is safe, but it is sad she is still waiting. However, I know her foster mom would never let anything happen to her... I have never read a petfinder ad where they flat out tell you that if a home is not found soon for an animal, that animal will be put to death. I do know the reality of our over flowing shelters, I'm not stupid...I guess I just do not like to face thinking about these things... There are shelters that operate as no kill and keep the same animals for years...I have been seeing some of the same animals waiting for months now...There is , for example , a shelter in Bozeman Montana that has only adult cats to offer people . The ages on these cats is as high as 11-12 years...A young cat at this shelter is mayber 4-6 years...It is crazy...These yype of shelters are really not good either , because new animals are turned away for lack of space...New animals are killed, kittens are killed, if there are no other facilities able to take them... Well, guys, here is what is making me cry my eyes out tonight: THERE IS A CAT NAMED CATCHER IN FORT WORTH, TEXAS. HE IS A GREAT BIG ORANGE POLY.EXTRA TOES FRONT AND BACK FEET! HE IS ADORABLE! AS I'M WRITING THIS I CAN ONLY HOPE HE IS STILL ALIVE. I EMAILED THE SHELTER, JUST NOW, TO TELL THEM I WAS INTERESTED IN HIM! I TOLD THEM I'D CALL THEM IN THE MORNING. IF YOU READ THE AD YOU WILL UNDERSTAND MY FEELINGS HERE. I CAN ONLY HOPE THERE IS AN OUT POURING OF HELP FOR THIS CAT. I KNOW ONE PERSON THAT LIVES IN FORT WORTH. I KNOW A TRUCK DRIVER THAT HAS A RUN THROUGH THERE. I SIMPLY FEEL COMPELLED TO TRY AND SAVE THIS CAT. IF ANYONE WANTS TO HIT ME OVER THE HEAD WITH A STICK , I WILL UNDERSTAND. IF ANYONE HAS ANY EXTRA IDEAS HOW I CAN RESCUE THIS CAT, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I COULD FORWARD HIS PICTURE TO THIS SITE, BUT THAT WOULD BE BREAKING THE RULES, I THINK? AT THE LEAST, IT WOULD BE UPSETTING AND OR TAKING ADVANTAGE OF ALL YOU SOFTIES OUT THERE... I DID ASK, IN MY EMAIL TO THE SHELTER, IF CATCHER HAD BEEN TESTED FOR FeLV/FIV. I WILL LET YOU GUYS KNOW TOMORROW WHAT I HAVE LEARNED IN MY PURSUIT OF THIS PROJECT I'M UNDERTAKING HERE... I KNOW WE ALL HAVE SO MUCH TO DEAL WITH, JUST WITH OUR OWN LIVES AND THE KITTIES WE ALREADY HAVE IN OUR CARE... SORRY ,BUT SOMETIMES ON THIS SITE WE FIND OURSELVES GOING TO EACH OTHER FOR COMFORT AND UNDERSTANDING. I GUESS IT WAS MY TURN TONIGHT. I USUALLY DO NOT START BAWLING OVER A CAT I DO NOT KNOW , BUT THIS AD, PROFILING CATCHER, REALLY MOVED ME. IF ANYONE HAS TIME ON THEIR HANDS TO LOOK CATCHER UP CHECK HIS PICTURE OUT. THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR PUTTING UP WITH ME! GLENDA Building a website is a piece of cake. Yahoo! Small Business gives you all the tools to get online. http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/webhosting
RE: OT: Re: Polydactyl's
Ahh, Thanks Glenda. I'm much better today. I had to go home sick yesterday. I think it was just one of those overwhelming days. Yes, I'm younger--same as Caroline, I think--29. That's so true about generations! I was very influenced by my grandparents, in fact, I think of my late grandpa as more of a father figure. But, I hope my children will become animal lovers like me. No, my family isn't mean, per se, to the pets. They are just indifferent to them. The cats aren't allowed outside (thank goodness), but Steve escapes every now and then, and he only lets me bring him back inside. They get all their shots and medical care as needed--just not enough love. You're right about Sunny (fat cats), she's not interested in playing, etc. And she eats more than her share and even eats the dog's food at times. But, I think the fact that my family doesn't play with her exacerbates the problem. Anyway, something good did happen to me last night. As I was filling up the tea kettle to make more instant soup, I was watching the birds on the feeder. Then I saw that one was caught by her head in-between the two shepherd's hooks. This has happened before and we put corn cobs down in the space, but they had fallen out, and we had forgotten to put them back. I sprinted outside to help ease the little bird up and out. She flew off. I hope she makes it. Her neck was all bloody from trying to scratch herself free. I was nearly hysterical from being sick and the traumatic sight of this poor little bird. Luckily my husband immediately found some wood blocks to put in there when he got home. This way they won't rot and fall out like the corn cobs. So, I felt good for rescuing the bird, but sad that it had to happen in the first place. Anyway, thanks for the reassuring words--Glenda and Wendy--by the way, I'm due March 7 or so. We haven't told the family yet--waiting until the first ultrasound on Tuesday to confirm that everything is okay. Good luck with your endeavors of the same Wendy!! :) Melissa -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of glenda Goodman Sent: Wednesday, July 25, 2007 9:21 PM To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Subject: RE: OT: Re: Polydactyl's Melissa, Some days are harder than others. It cannot be easy taking care of a bunch of kitties, becoming a mother, in this day and age, dealing with family that depend on your support ,but seem not to be able to offer you any support when you need it. Something tells me you are a lot younger than most of us here... Well, bless your heart! You are going to make a very fine , responsible mother. You will be a wonderful example for your own children... My mom used to tell me generations skip ...She thought children are never like their parents, but their grandparents...I think if you are a good parent, a real hands on parent, you will be a good influence on your children...You will change those dynamics... Somewhere, someone was a good influence on you...and again bless your heart for trying to be a good influence on your mom and sisters... I'm sorry the kitties at your mom's house are having a rough time...just as long as they are spayed/neutered, vaccinated and kept off the streets, especially at night. The good news is, at least Sunny and Steve have each other for affection...and it looks like nobody is mean to them? On the subject of overweight cats: I have one adult male cat named Velcro. He is a four year old, tuxedo cat. Velcro does not seem to have any interests in life. He does love me and wants to sit on me all the time. He is very jealous of Feeto, simply cannot stand Feeto. Except for Feeto getting a rise out of him, I have never even seen him get excited about anything... a grasshopper., mouse toys...nothing. He sleeps and eats and eats and eats. I do leave the dry food out for everyone, but Velcro must eat more than his share?( I do not even give Velcro treats...can't... Everyone else is muscular and reasonably trim... I do need to really try and put him on a diet...I have tried keeping food away from him,but he is not getting lighter... I think one reason he is overweight is his lack of interest in playing. Velcro not big on exercise... I'll ask my vet if it could be a thyroid problem...If it isn't, I think some cats, like people, are overweight because of lifestyle choices. Sunny must have access to food all day at your mom's? I'm glad I was here to listen...When is that human baby due? Glenda --- Melissa Lind [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Glenda, Too bad you're not taking any more kitties :) My mom has a poly named Sunny. She's probably four years old or so. I never knew that was the technical name for them--we've always called them mitten paws. We used to joke that this happened from all the pesticides/herbicides in the water. Sunny was a stray. Well, my mom and my sisters who live at home are a continual disappointment to me in the way they take care of (or don't take care of)
Re: OT: Pet Burial Ceremony- for Monkee
What a beautiful idea :) Caroline Kaufmann [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:I have lost many pets before in my life, but with my recent loss of Monkee, I feel compelled to have some kind of ceremony honoring his life because he is the closest companion (animal or human) that I've ever had. I am really struggling with his death and the grieving process. I also want something to provide me with some closure and I thought an official ceremony might do that. Of course, I know that even though Monkee touched a lot of my friends and family, I am afraid it will only be my mom and I at the ceremony, but regardless, I still want to do it. Monkee was cremated so I don't really want to have a burial per se. I don't plan to spread his ashes or bury them...I want to keep them. I just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas for me? My mom has been doing some research to find a person to perform the ceremony and a location here in Louisville, Kentucky. If anyone has further thoughts, or a good script that we could use as a basis for the ceremony, please let me know. I appreciate it. -Caroline - Missed the show? RE: OT: Pet Burial Ceremony- for Monkee
Gina: This is the one I plan to order a ring from. http://www.pet-gems.com I liked this the best- I just thought it sounded really neat that the cremains kind of dictate the color of the stone- that seems really mystical to me. There are other sites for other types of jewelry- like necklaces- http://www.memorypendants.huffmanstudios.com/but I'm a ring-wearer so pet gems is my personal fave. I got to these sites from http://www.pet-loss.net. It has tons of information on it, including other types of memorials for your pet. -Caroline From:Gina WN [EMAIL PROTECTED]Reply-To:felvtalk@felineleukemia.orgTo:felvtalk@felineleukemia.orgSubject:RE: OT: Pet Burial Ceremony- for MonkeeDate:Thu, 26 Jul 2007 00:15:59 -0700 (PDT) Did you find a jewelry site that you like? HI Glenda He is SOOO cute. I hope he gets a good home. I just aquired a new kitten. She is solid grey. Now with Junior being FeLV pos. I had no intention of bringing a cat home. Someone told the lady I did rescue. She told me all the shelters were full. Someone had dropped the kitten off and she was half starved. She is doing better and is confined to Eric's room. Which means she also has company. However I am still trying to find her a home. There are sveral poeple where I work who are interested. Her picture is on my website see below. Re: OT: OOPS, I HAVE BEEN ON PETFINDERS AGAIN...
Sally, I just looked at your kitty. She has really pretty green eyes. She should grow up to be a real beauty! It sure is hard loving all these kitties and being able to only help a handful. Your website is wild. When I get a little time I will check it out again. The best of luck to you and your kitties. I have one FeLV+ kitty too. I think that really slows us down, so hard keeping everyone seperated and back tracking, making sure everything is kept clean and picked up... About this kitty in Fort Worth : I will know what is going on when I call tomorrow. As it stands, I will take this cat in, if I am able to get him to me... I will sponser him...whatever it takes that I can do... I just have to try...Thanks for checking him out...He is at : ANIMAL CARE AND CONTROL DIVISION FORT WORTH ,TEXAS He is # 501505 His name is Catcher, a very large, orange poly. Poor little guy, wearing the duck suit hat...trying so hard to be cute... anyone live in Fort Worth with time to conspire with me on this? I'll send the bail out fees... He simply has to be still alive or I will just go bonkers...will find out tomorrow... Thanks, Glenda --- Sally Davis [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: HI Glenda He is SOOO cute. I hope he gets a good home.
