Hi all,
Thanks so much for adding Buffy to the CLS.. Even though I don't have another

what I'm talking about.
If I can ever be of any help, please don't hesitate to contact me. You all are

[Felvtalk] CLS - Angel Kathy - Non FELV

2009-03-26 Thread Kelley Saveika
Kathy is one of my friends' kitties. She crossed the bridge last week due
to end stage cancer and renal failure. She had been blind since birth and
they had her operated on to form eyelids so the fur would not stick to her
eyes. She also had some other birth defects. Despite her living 13 years
of course my friend blames herself.

[Felvtalk] Feeling Guilty

2009-03-26 Thread martinjenn
when you have to turn away FeLv cats because you rescued one to many,
does the feeling of guilt ever go away. I was going to take a cat from
NY but had an emergency rescue of one who was going to be put to sleep.
I had to tell this person that I can't take the cat. We are getting our
last one from Indiana, that has been planned for months. I worry about
being reported to the ASPCA for having too many cats. We currently have
13, plus 1 from indiana makes 14.

I wish I could rescue them all. In 2-3 years, when we get more
financialy stable, we are going to convert a house that we are currently
renting, into a cattery so I can rescue more cats. But for now we run
it out of our home, which is large, but is getting over run by cats.

Any advice or words of comfort is appreciated.

Subject: [Felvtalk] Please add Bob to the bridge list

Bob was a wonderful little gray tabby FELV boy that I took in from a
couple here who rescue cats. He was found at a truck stop on the
highway, all alone, last November, and such a sweetie! But then he
tested positive for FELV. The folks who brought him to me were just
devastated, just loved him so much, as I did. They thought he was
not quite a year old, and we were all hoping he'd make it longer.

Bob was fine - eating heartily, playful - until March. He became
lethargic and the vet said he was severely anemic. He got a blood
transfusion, and was on prednisone, pettinic, etc. But just couldn't
make it back from his sickness. He died the early morning of March
17, 2009, and with St Patrick's help went to the Rainbow Bridge where
he was greeted by all our other sweet feline kitties. Sleep soft
 sweet Bob.

Gentle thoughts to all of you who have lost little ones, it helps so
 much having others out there.

2009-03-26 Thread Sue Frank Koren
I can so sympathise with what you are saying. A couple of weeks ago my vet
called me and asked if I could take a positive cat with anemia that he believed
there was hope for. I had to tell him no and I am still thinking about that
poor cat. The owners were being jerks, refused to have their other cats tested,
even though they go outside, and wanted to put this one down immediatly.
I don't help anywhere near as many cats as you do but as you say, I wish I
could rescue them all. My husband has reached his limit with seven cats and if
I took another I know there would be some issues in our marrage.
I guess you just have to remember what a difference you have made in the lives
of the ones you have rescued.

Since my original post Orlando has finished a course of Clavamox. In July his
liver enzyme was 64. In Feb. before the antibiotic it was 191, and last
Saturday it was 224. Not extremely high, but still odd that it is going up.
He is eating normally and acting completely normal. The vet told me to start
giving him vitaman E and Milk Thistle and we will test him again in 6 months.
Meanwhile I will just watch him carefull to make sure his behavior does not
change. At this point the vet is trying to avoid a liver biopsy because his
levels are not that bad and the biopsy is so invasive.

Anyway, can anyone tell me what would make his liver enzymes elevated?
