Take him and love him. He was sent to you for love and care. Every time I
have lost one furry soul, anoher one came to me. I have 7 now and would not
part with any of them, the love and company they give me is priceless and they
give me a reason to get up in the morning. They will walk all over me, Meow,
pull my hair and sometimes I wih they would just leave me alone, but that is
just what I do not need. I need to get up and deal with life, not hide from
it.

John, whatever your decision, I know it will be the right one. Follow your
 heart.

John, I know that Tigger would want you to have your heart open to a cat in
 need (Storm).
You have the support of a great fellowship of cat lovers.
Over the past 2 years I have lost 3 cats to old age/disease and I
immediately found 3 loving cats that needed a home.
Nothing will replace Tigger, but every new cat brings so much joy.
Good luck with all things feline.

Thanks for your inquiry about Storm. I'm not sure how he is with other
cats, but I'll certainly find out. I'll get back to you as soon as I have an
 answer.

 Thanks again,
 Cindy

I was contacted by someone whose friend has been feeding a stray cat
that's living in a seasonal mobile home park on Chincoteague Island. The park
closes at the end of November and the person who has been feeding it is going
to live with relatives, where the cat is not welcome.

The woman who contacted me is desperate to find a place for the cat by
the end of November and she's willing to cover all vetting costs herself.
Transportation is also available most anywhere.

The cat is called Storm because he showed up after Hurricane Irene.
He's a long-haired black and white neutered male.

If you know of anyone who can help, please contact me and I'll put you
in touch with the woman who's trying so hard to save this poor baby. He's had
a lot of tough breaks in his life. He deserves another chance.

   Thank you.
   Cindy

2011-11-25 Thread dlgegg
If she is not comfortable with mixing because of the vet's say so, maybe she
should try another vet who is enlightened. Storm sounds like a real lover and
and it would be a shame to miss out on his company just because he is felv+. I
have 2 positives and 5 negatives including 2 kittens I brught home at age 3
months. I did keep the kittens seperate until they had all their shots up to
date. They all mix now and 1 kitten Harley aggrevates the older ones to death.
So far, slaps nd hisses, but no biting, (and if anyone would bite, it would
be Annie and Nitnoy. Especially Nitnoy snce she got her tail removed by a
raccoon. She does not like being approached from the rear and does not
hesitate to let you know) but even then, my vet said if the negatives are up to
date on shots, I sould not have a problem. The kittens are now over 1-1/2
years old, and healthy as can be - no sign they are having problems from
contact with Annie and Nitnoy.

I am not putting her down, she is doing her best for this cat. I just think
she will be missing ot on a real lover if she does not take him. Is the vet
sure he is really positive? Would retesting be called for? Since he is
neuteed, he must be past thekitten stage and his immune system could have it
controlled by now. Don't hey always test positive once thy have had contact?

 Cindy McHugh ci...@furangels.org wrote:
She's not comfortable exposing her cat to him, even with the vaccination. I
understand this is controversial, but I can see her point. When I was
fostering a FeLV+ cat, I wouldn't allow him contact with my own cats.

Short of bringing him into her home, she's doing everything she can to save
this cat, offering to cover all of his vet bills and even get him a dental.
And I don't think she's even nearby, as I believe she lives in WV and the
 cat is on Chincoteage Island.

 Thanks,
 Cindy

Can't/won't she mix them? I have mixed neg/pos for years with no
problem as long as the negatives are up to date on the dreaded FeLV
  shots.

  Here's the info she sent:

There is a resident population of feral cats at Tom's Cove Campground.
  Some
of the people living there put food out. Occasionally a cat is trapped
  and
  taken to
an area vet. Storm showed up after Hurricane Irene. He was trapped and
taken to the vet to get shaved down because he was badly matted and
  infested
with fleas. At the vet's it was discovered he was already neutered. His
ears were not notched and he has no microchip.

Storm has not shown any aggression at all. He is fed separately, but the
other cats don't bother him. He is not feral. I was asked if I would
  take
him home with me when I visited in October. I took him to the local vet
  to
be tested and that is when it was discovered that he is FeLV+. I have a
  3yo
female cat who is FeLV-. There is no way I could keep him separated from
  my
  cat.

While the rest of the colony will survive the winter, it is doubtful if
Storm would make it through the winter outside and without a regular
  source
of food. The campground where he is now closes at the end of November.
  I
honestly think he would make a wonderful pet.
