[Felvtalk] Coco update

2015-10-01 Thread Kelley S
We got Coco bathed with Dawn water and all the nasty flea dirt off of her.
She still has a few live fleas crawling on her even with the Seresto collar
but nothing like they were before. We have her in an upstairs bathroom
with A/D. Last night she ate half a can of Friskees on her own. I am
going to clean up her room while she is in the other room and put her
clean bedding back in - I washed it in hot water to kill flea eggs.

Her ears are dirty, need to see if it is infection or mites. It isn't
crunchy like mites tend to be so maybe infection. Lots of waxy residue.
Looks like what my heart kitty Missy used to get near the end of her life.

Thanks to whoever recommended Little City Dogs, I ordered 2 packages of
Lufenuron and one of Nitenpyram. I am declaring WAR on these fleas..

Hi Kelley,

I received a recipe for a raw liver shake for sick kitties many years ago & have used iit with great success to get my picky ones interested in food again.  I try to use organic, grass-fed beef liver, but I have also used chicken livers sometimes.  I hope this helps.

THE '~LIVER SHAKE~' FOR SICK CATS (Note: I got this recipe back in April 1998):

This liquid food is appropriate for cats suffering from conditions where they are eating very little or not at all such as anemias, leukemias, deficiency states with symptoms of lethargy, listlessness, and weakness.

1 cup RAW LIVER (BEEF, or CHICKEN)
1 cup FRESH CARROT JUICE or V-8, or Tomato Juice
1/4 cup *FRESH FILTERED WATER
1 RAW EGG YOLK
1 tsp.KELP POWDER OR SPIRULINA

COMBINE AND MIX IN A BLENDER UNTIL LIQUIFIED. (Note: it will be frothy)

Dosage:

Administer 10 cc daily 3-6 times a day. (60 cc per day max)

Some cats will need to be force-fed with a syringe, while others will drink it out of a bowl.

This food has a sweet and salty taste and the energetic properties of tonifying (energy boosting), warming and stimulating and supports the kidneys, spleen, liver and stomach.

This drink is a complete dinner for a sick cat until they feel good enough to eat by themselves again.

*Substitute rice water if the cat has diarrhea.
Rice water is made by boiling white rice (2 Tbsps.) with water (1cup) for 30 minutes. This liquid aids digestion and assimilation and inhibits the symptoms of diarrhea.

FYI -Dr. Mallu was asked about forwarding the Liver Shake recipe on to allo vets, she said to credit it to Dr. Ihor Basko in Kauai, Hawaii - fyi.

I continue to be really worried.  She is so very thin and eats almost nothing.  She IS eating, just not much at all.  I have gotten some AD and am going to try to syringe it to her.

  Lorrie,

Yes, I would agree it is very difficult. Unfortunately very difficult does
not mean impossible. That's my problem. I have no more kittens. I have a
young adult cat who was born 1/7/13 who has been combo tested negative and
vaccinated along with all the other cats.

My vet told me it is very difficult for FelV cats to give the virus
to other adult cats. It is a different story with kittens who are
very susceptible, as their immune systems are not fully developed.
I've personally found that kittens born with FelV from a positive
mother almost always die. However, I have 10 adult cats who have been
with two FelV pos. cats for 5 years and none of them have become
positive. FelV is not easily transmitted to adult cats, even when
they share food and water bowls.
