[Felvtalk] Follow-up
Amani, Sorry to have you repeat your post, but that was very helpful. Good news! I took Mia to Vet's and my vet was totally on board with Zander's Protocol. I gave her a printout of some of the info you sent. She even said she had no problem with the Winstrol. I'm just waiting for the pharmacy to compound it. We did a CBC - her reticulocytes are very low and the hematocrit is 15-16%. I'm hoping this helps her and we can have a few more years. We been together since she was 4 days old. Here goes. Thanks everyone for all our support. ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org
[Felvtalk] Another question(s) about Zander's protocol
Thank you Amani, Bob, Sandy and Ardy for your input. I was wondering how did Zander's protocol originate? Was is trial and error or a known remedy? How did 'they' or you know what meds would work for FeLV cats and how was the combination decided? Just wanted some background to give my vet when I talk with her. Thanks again everyone. You are all so supportive! Yes, I do have a medical background. I'm a retired vet tech so I'm glad I have some knowledge of the meds to be used for Mia. ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org
[Felvtalk] Follow-up questions for FeLv meds
Thank you all for the information for my Mia kitty. I have a few more questions for Amani concerning Zander's Protocol: doxycycline - Should a calculated dose be used based on weight of animal for this or is the dose that you give apply to all cats. Mia is a small girl - weighs 7 lbs. Also, how long should she be taking the meds. Is it the normal 7-10 days to 2 weeks antibiotic regimen or longer?Prednisolone - I assume this is the normal protocol for this drug - a loading dose with tapering doses.winstrol - looks like this is taken until the hematocrit reaches near normal range. Then, should this be continued to maintain a normal level forever? Thank you all again. I am grateful for your intelligent feedback and experience on this subject. I am at a loss since I have never had a FeLV cat in the many decades I've had the privilege of sharing my life with my cat companions. ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org
[Felvtalk] FeLv Positive cat
I am new to the list. Three weeks ago my 5-year old Miakitty was diagnosed with FeLv. The ELISA test showed slightly + for FeLv. Itook her to the vet’s initially because her lymph nodes were raging – all ofthem premandibular, prescapular, inguinal all the way to the popliteals wereenlarged. A needle aspirate of the lymph nodes result was hyperplasia,no lymphosarcoma. White blood cell count was normal, but she was anemic, butnot to the point of needing a transfusion.I was devastated and stunned at this diagnosis because she(the whole litter) was tested as kittens for FIV and FeLv and were negative. Myvet said the disease can stay in the bone marrow. I have her brother who isasymptomatic – confusing. I haven’t had him tested yet for FeLv yet.My vet recommended treatment with Immunoregulin. Theprotocol per Plumb’s is an IV injection twice weekly for two weeks, then 1injection once weekly for 21 weeks. She is now in her 4th week oftreatment. For the first two weeks, her lymph nodes decreased and becamesofter. But after the 2nd week her lymph nodes are raging againdespite the treatments. She is eating well, but not very active. Has anyone had experience with this treatment or any othertreatment(s) or advice to help my little girl? Thanks in advance, Pat Peterson___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org
