Re: [Felvtalk] Felvtalk Digest, Vol 17, Issue 5
Does anyone know of some spare interferon omega that may be available in the US? I have a 3 legged cat that has just been diagnosed with a fibro sarcoma tumor related to vaccinations. This tumor is in her last remaining rear leg. I've contacted people in England but the price is so exorbitant and there would be more product than I need. I have been a part of this group for 4 years when I rescued a FELV kitten. She lived for 4-1/2 years, I just lost her a couple of months ago. But I remembered that interferon is also used for FELV cats so I was thinking maybe someone had some left over that they may consider selling. [Felvtalk] Immulin
I've been using Imulan for Taz for a while. I started her on it when she was about 6 months old (when I found her). She was very symptomatic whici is why I took her into the vet. They tested her and she was positive. She had a temp of 105, wouldn't eat and very lethargic. I took her home and fed her everything stinky I could think of and started her on Clavamox. She responded a bit and then I had to go out of town. My vet had researched the Imulan and I had her buy a 3 pack. she tried it in Tax while I was out of town. I was so afraid she was going to die while I was gone but when I got back she had pretty well bounced back to her original goofy self. I kept giving the Imulan once a week for 6 weeks because her blood count was only creeping up and had a couple of little set backs. She has continued to do well and I've started her on every other week shots. So far every other week for 4 shots. She still continous to improve and has been in the normal range. However, she has been through 2 heat cycles which the vet says can stress them enough to lower their blood counts. So I just had her spayed. Interesting note, she said that with female ferrets that too many heat cycles without pregnanacy can cause it to actually get so weak it can die. I'm hoping her blood levels get back up to normal and I can then go to once a month shots. It's expensive but this little cat has been dealt a crappy hand. First she was almost eaten up by pitt bulls, then threatened with death at an animal shelter I took her to so I took her back, and then this disease. So I have a vested interest in keeping her healthy. She is the best when it comes to taking her daily meds, Pet-tinic, DMG and Myco-Immune. She'll just open her mouth and take it. So if your pocket book can handle it, I would recommend it and try it. Good luck. [Felvtalk] FeLV survey, please take part, just a personal one to better undertsand FeLV.
I have seven cats, the youngest being Taz was diagnosed with FeLv when she started getting sick after about 1 month with my other negative kitties all of which are vacinated. I took Taz in to get her looked at and to get her shots. That's when they tested her for FeLv and she came back positive. I feed her stinky salmon and white tuna, some Fancy Feast kitten food and some baby food, whatever I can get her to eat. She hates the Science Diet the vet recommended. I'va also boiled chicken for her for the broth and meat. I've had her on Imulan and have seen some mixed results but she is gaining weight, happy and bouncy so I'm continuing with the expensive treatments. She also get Pet Tinic everyday and DMG. I've seperated her from my other cats, which I hate because she was buddies with my three legged tuxedo kitty, but this was recommended by the vet. She said that vacinations are not a guarantee against the disease if the cats are exposed to it enough. All of my kitties are indoor kitties except one does get outdoor roaming priviledges because it gives him a better attitude. The rest of the cats get there outdoor stuff on a large screened in porch basically built just for them. It's hard having a FeLv kitty because I travel so much for work which means I board her at the vets while I'm gone which of course stresses her some. The people love her at the vet but I think it directly affects her wellness with regard to the blood work-up and down. Sorry for the long diatribe. [Felvtalk] Imulan message-mailto:de4e9a820901120431l12499b62i55b69d750ff92...@mail.gmail.com
Hi Lisa, I'm currently using Imulan on my FeLV kitten. She was very very sick before it came in. She was anemic and her blood caounts were low. Since the Imulan she is back to her old goofy self. She's not anemic but her blood counts still continue to fall. That bothers me. The vets aren't quite sure why. She is eating well and playful and no sign of illness, no temperature, but I'm giving her an antibiotic to try and help fight whatever is destroying here blood counts. I would recommend the Imulan and I will continue the treatments as long as she is benefitting. So far the manufacturer doesn't have any info with regard to old or very young cats but they say that 2 of the test cats have been tested negative via bone marrow tests after this treatment. I'm hoping my little girl cat, Taz, will start producing the right blood cells she needs. Her is are a couple of websites that may help. http://www.imulan.com/felv-fiv-treatment.html http://fabulousfelinesandfidos.yuku.com/reply/39095/t/-Treatment--Feline-Leukemia--Feline-Aids-FeLV--FIV-.html hope this helps, Nancy and Taz ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org
Re: [Felvtalk] General didn't eat breakfast (catatonya)
I had a problem getting my cat to eat when she was sick. My vet said to try canned salmon or tuna. She said the stinkier the better because it will entice her sense of smell. I tried it and she's right. Taz likes the canned salmon better. Hope this helps. ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org
[Felvtalk] Sick FelV kitten
Lorrie, I have an FeLV positive kitten also who is about 3 to 4 months old and only 3.8 pounds also. She developed a sore on her mouth that slowed her down considerably and I thought I was going to lose her. My vet was waiting on this new FDA medicine she had heard about and ordered for me. It finally came in and thte first shot has already made a marked difference in her. Taz is now back to her old self. However, as she was getting weaker she developed a limp in one of her front legs for no apparent reason. I thought her leg may have fell asleep from laying on it so long but that wasn't it either. Taz is also anemic and I have her on Pet Tinic. This new medicine is supposed to target the bone marrow to help with healthy blood cell reproduction. It's called Imulan (sp?). It's kind of expensive but I've seen the positive results so far and will keep giving her this for as long as she is responding to it. She's not limping and her blood counts are responding positively. This might be something you can try as well. Good luck with the kitten.
