Tricia
My Tigger lived 1 month shy of 5 years with FeLV
He had his ups and downs, as we all do
He lived with 6 housemates...NONE are positive!!

As far as the stool, cats get it like we do. may have eaten something that
 disagreed with him

What test was done. Snap or other??
With Snap, if he's been exposed, it will be postitve, other (ELSA??) is
more through, and can tell if he actually has it
   I wish you the best
FeLV kitties can be the most loving of all, as Tigger was

Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help me

We live in the country and have about 8 outside cats. A friend decided
to take one home, Pumpkin, and had her all fixed up at the vet with shots,
spay and declaw. She found out she has feline leukemia. She kept her for
about a month, but I guess she was making a mess as far as using the
litter box. I told her I didn't want her to go to an over crowded humane
society, so I took her back. She is now in the house, as she is front
declawed,
and she is not to be around the other cats with her cancer.

So... I've had her home since just before Christmas, and she's been fine
other than not eating a whole lot. Her stool is quiet soft, and I did find a
few hard turds in two different sleeping places that she uses. Well now
today, she had a ver messy stool on the wood floor in the hallway!! Really
shocked me as she's been so good using the littler box.

Is this a sign that she is getting sick, the not using the littler box?
She has a prescription for Tylosin Tartrate, and she said to give this to
her(powder form), when/if she gets sick???

She does seems to sleep most of the day, but I know cats do do that :)
She also does purr quite loud!! Must be a good sign. She will play with a
string too. So she's been very happy, but now I had to resort to putting
her back in the basement with her food and litter. I might end up sleeping
down there with her again, as I did when she first came in the house.
She has had the run of the house now for weeks, but I just don't trust her
since her accident.

I've read where infected cats can live quite long, but yet others do not.
I certainly would not want to put her thru all sorts of treatments...

Thank you for your time:)))

I appreciate any input for my Pumpkin!

Tricia

i use rubber sheeting purchased at joanne's fabric store (they just had
60% coupon off yesterday). it absorbs, never soaks thru. cut and tear to
whatever size you need. just throw in the washer (no bleach) and dryer.
i buy the bolt and cut to size(s) I want. never fails. I first discovered
and used for elderly parents.

For the summer, you can get either the disposable large size pads or the
adult mattress pads that are sold at medical supply shops for adults with
bladder incontinence. Hey, I'm the queen of waterproofing. With all the
cats I have had, there has always been a bed wetting problem with at least one
or two of them. Instead of screaming and tearing my hair out and dumping
the cat out the door, I used some of my elderly mom's disposable mattress
pads for a while. She actually wasn't incontinent but she couldn't walk so
needed a bed pan, so just in case...I would use the mattress pads. Then I
purchased several of the washable types when one of my very old cats began
thinking the bed was her litter box. You can also purchase a zippered
waterproof mattress cover, then put a regular quilted mattress topper over it
and just toss the topper into the washing machine if someone makes a
mistake, sponge the waterproof cover with rubbing alcohol. It's a good
deodorizer
after it evaporates. But in the summer, if you don't want to feel you are
being shrink wrapped, you can use the top removable types and either toss
into the wash or toss into the garbage if they are disposable. The
washable are more economical. You can even make up the bed in the morning and
then
put a fitted waterproof mattress topper over the whole thing to keep
everything good while you are gone. If an accident happens, you just whisk
the
cover off and you are ready for sleeping in the bed.

For the nasty drip into the mattress I would recommend an enzyme type odor
eliminator. I used to use Petzyme, which you can purchase at PetsMart.
It doesn't have any added scent as a cover up. Sometimes I think I prefer
the odor of cat pee to those awful perfumes they dump into deodorizers.
When you use the enzyme type deodorizer, you have to make sure the spot
stays wet for at least 24 hours. If it dries out, by-by little beneficial
bacteria and the enzyme doesn't work.
You can Google cat urine neutralizer or deodorizer and see what you come
up with. There are many brands and many prices.

My 12 yr old cat recently wet the bed (and #2 on the couch twice). I got Dr.
Esley's Cat Attract and all my cats love, love, love it. Meanwhile, to keep my
furniture safe, I put vinyl tablecloths (cheap) over my bed and sofa during the
day. I also covered my mattress and couch with waterproof mattress covers,
too. The vinyl tablecloths have flannel on the back and it keeps it from
slipping around. I found them at Target.

Re: [Felvtalk] mssr. phelps

2012-03-13 Thread pandieann

this is the email i rec'd:

Pandie Ann,
My feeling is that at this point you cannot use the Black Salve:
1) He has been eating only dry food; therefore, it may be difficult to
switch him to raw meat, and to get him to eat the raw meat with the essential
supplements, all of which he needs to do the necessary repairing and healing
after applying the Black Salve.
2) He needs time to build up his body's strength to go through the ordeal
of healing. And he doesn't have that time.
3) It is not clear from your email whether he is the FIV/FELV cat or you
are speaking in general about other cats you have. If he is FIV/FELV, for sure
he will not have the Vital Life Force to heal once the Black Salve goes after
the cancer cells.
4) He has had a biopsy; therefore, there is a great possibility the cancer
has metastasized.
5) The growth/lump is so near to his trachea, that as it swells...as part
of the healing...after applying the Black Salve, it might close off his airway.
My opinion is that I would not put him through the trauma of surgically
removing the growth either. He won't live any longer...in fact, you may
shorten his life, by his going through that trauma of surgery...and surgery
will not stop the cancer from going to another area...in fact, the trauma of
the surgery will cause it to spread even faster because his immune system will
be so weakened by the surgery.
I wish I had a better prognosis, but I do not.

No, I didn’t mean the neoplasene when I wrote about a black salve – yes,
extremely painful. This salve is different., not as painful, depending on the
cancer. Natalie

I don't know if this will help the sarcoma, but am guessing they were referring
to what is called Black Salve Neoplasene.

There is a yahoo group for Neoplasene use in pets, and also a very wonderful
Feline Cancer group. I would definitely suggest the Feline Cancer group
regardless of your interest in the Neoplasene, perhaps someone has experience
with a similar cancer. And I would suggest researching the salve thoroughly, I
don't know much about it but sounds like it can be extremely painful in some
cases.

Good luck to Ms Phelps and to you!
