Re: diarrhea
I sometimes use veterinary Kaopectate. It's not what's on the store shelves, cause they've changed the formula and it's not safe for cats. But the old formulation was - and somehow, thru our vet, we got the safe old formulation of Kaopectate. It's worked well for my kitties, for many occasions of nonspecific diarrhea. Re: diarrhea
Hi Lynne, When Ember has had diarrhea on occasion, I've cleared it up by pulling her off of dry food and stirring pumpkin into her soft food. I've found that she'll eat the pumpkin before it's even stirred into the food. I don't know if this would help with diarrhea brought on by antibiotic use, but it's the easiest and most gentle solution to diarrhea, as far as I know. You just want to buy canned pumpkin, not pumpkin pie filling. Lance On Feb 17, 2008, at 8:00 AM, Lynne wrote: I'm very sorry, I must have deleted an email about diarrhea and doxycycline. Thanks Lance. I just happen to have some left over from the last pumpkin pie. Re: diarrhea
Cool. As long as it's just pumpkin and not filling, you're fine. All the extra spices and other ingredients in filling would probably just keep the diarrhea going. Also, you might try heating it up in the microwave for a few seconds (I do 12 for Ember). That sometimes makes it more interesting. Lance On Feb 17, 2008, at 11:21 AM, Lynne wrote: Thanks Lance. RE: OT: .for Melissa re diarrhea
Thanks for the info Laurie! If it turns out to be IBD, I'll be glad to know there's a group to turn to. Yes, making food seems daunting since I have a difficult enough time doing it for me and my husband (not because I don't like to, just busy). The winter is always less hectic, so I plan to start making kitty food then. Ashley has gained 2 pounds in the last two weeks since the visit with the new vet, but her poops are the same. Possibly the dewormer helped. I just got off the phone with the vet, and she suggested that we put her back on her regular food that she's used to for 2 weeks. No meds. Then I'll have a stool sample sent to a lab for further testing (once all the meds are out of her system). Then we'll see what could be in her. If that doesn't work, the vet said we might have to do a scope. We'll see. Time will tell. I guess this is really not the time to try to find a home for her. I'm probably the best one to keep her since I know what's going on, what's been done, etc. Maybe I could just find a home for Nonie (healthy) to alleviate the stress.
