oh, sally, i am so sorry to hear this news. i don't really have anything to say that everyone else hasn't said already: junior knew how much you loved him and fought for him, and i truly believe that they don't mind the process involved with leaving this live nearly as much as we do--i think they understand far more about the cycles than we do. he came to you because he needed you for that last year and a half--just as you came to this list, as sad as it sometimes seems to be. we're all here to teach one another--the cats more than the people, i often think. GLOW to heal your heart; junior is off having a great time in his brand-new, healthy, young body, catching up with old friends and making new ones. thank you for loving him, and for sharing his life with us. Re: Junior
Thanks, This group is the reason Junior had the last year and a half. He thanks you all for that. His quality of life was good up until that last day. Sure he had his share of URI and the corneal ulcer, but all that was treatable. This last thing while maybe treatable would have been very poor quality of life. He was ready to go. I would never have been ready for him to leave. I just realized today that I still have a half sister to Junior. Same mother from a litter a year before he was born. She is 7 now and very healthy. She cannot stand me :-). I will post more later. Also my sister decided she did not have to make a decision about her felk cat today. I am so happy. RE: Junior
Sally, I am so sorry. I didn't expect this. You and Junior made it through so much already. I'm very sorry for your loss. You did right by him- don't ever doubt that. Oddly, I had a dream about Monkee last night- which is rare. I haven't had a Monkee-dream since the night he came to take Brumley at the beginning of Feb. So I thought it was weird that I dreamed about him last night because it seemed out of place (I have all healthy fosters right now!). With hearing this mornings news of Junior, it seems to make sense now. I felt a special connection to Junior because you communicated to me his whole saga when I was struggling with Brumley's uveitis. I'm sorry for your loss. It makes me feel a little bit better though to think that Monkee is like The Ambassador of the Felv Bridge Cats or something...?!...since he keeps showing up when it's their time to join him? Re: Junior
HI Kerry Thanks you for the hugs. My head knows Junior is happy and whole. My heart is broken. His roomate spike just jumped up on my lap to let me know she is a love kitty. When I first joined this group I almost had to leave it seemed like someone baby was passing away all the time. It hurt so much to think about it. I knew I had to stay because I learned so much. Re: Junior
Lance Thanks for your kind thoughts. You are one of the ones that encouraged my in the beginning to fight this. Your help got Junior on Transfer Factor which I fell helped him over the hump. In the end he was taking L lysine and high end catfood. He never stopped eating and was a good weight. I did not have to witness a horrible decline. I know he is whole and happy he can see again and he is playing with Tiny, but I am hurting. Sally On Fri, Mar 14, 2008 at 11:43 AM, Lance [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'm saddened by this news. Re: Junior
Caroline, I am Junior is happy to have such and honourable escort in Brumley. Junior has had some journey. I will be lost without him. He asked for nothing from me and gave so much. Every day when I got home from work he would come out of the bedroom looking for me. Of course he wanted food but I always knew that was a good sign. His food today is still on the counter. I cannot give it to anyone else bc his metacam is in it. I bet he already had a better meal on the other side. Re: Junior
Hi I just got more bad news. This time it is from my sister. A stray cat adopted her and finally decided to trust her. He is now her cat. She told me today that he was acting lethargic and had been so for the past couple of day. I told her she needed to get him to the vet. She had never had him in a carrier and was worried she would not be able to do so. Well she took him to the vet, not her usual vet. She said they did blood work. The vet was real nice even told her he liked cats a lot. Now for the bomb the cat is FELV positive. She had already had told the vet Junior's story. She said he gave her all the options including possible euthanasia. He said that did not have to be done right away. For now the cat is home with her. Slinky has become part of her family her cat chasing dogs have accepted him. The vet gave her clavamox and fluids. She said the cat was eating and appeared to be feeling better. They did not get a good temp, estmated at 104-105. So now I ask for prayers for slinky. He will have to be neutered when he is better. She lives in CA in Manteca. She wants to move back to VA in the next year. She is worried about that. I told her not to worry about things to come. If Junior had not passed Slinky may have gotten worse. This way she got Slinky to the vet right away. I figure that in people years I got another 10 years from Junior. Too bad it was short years for me. They were mostly good except for all the worrying. Hi Tonya, Thanks... The swelling in the lymph nodes has gone down. so I guess it was infection after all. Still not sure where it originated. The most swelling was on his left side. Thanks kelly and everyone for your encouragement. I think the other vet was going on the assumption that Junior's lymph system was doing it's job. I pray that is the case. HI glands have been swollen for about 8 weeks. He seems to have some pain near his left ear. He still eats well although his coat has not looked good since he was dx. This actually goes back to when he was hit by a car. I think maybe it is not so easy for him to groom himself. My bf was feeling bad yesterday and lashed out on me for caring more about the cats than him. It is hard to keep a balance. Junior is actually his cat. Men are not good at showing emotions. He is very hurt by Junior's illness. I said b4 he lost two Himalayan cats to this horrible disease. It must have come from the cattery where he got the kitten. Maybe he did not like that so for now it is back in my room. I have to go to work hopefully no problems while I am gone. I gave him his eye medicine. The left eye is the worse. It is also his blind side. It is red and inflamed. I don't think it was bulging as much as it had been. Thanks Sally Davis Junior needs your help with his care fighting Feline Leukemia. Re: Junior/pumpkin
I would remove the blind eye if your vet thinks he would be strong enough for the surgery, it's pointless to keep a source of pain which serves no purpose other than to create pain. Blind cats really do very well, I know you don't want it to come to that, but blind and comfortable would be preferable to being able to see a little with constant pain. http://blindcatrescue.com/moreinfo.html http://www.bestfriendspetcare.com/cat-behavior/blindcats.cfm Handicats2 is a great support group for handicapped cats, several members have blind cats there, and can answer any questions you may have: http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/HANDICATS2/ (one member even runs the blind cat rescue) Phaewryn http://ucat.us The easy way out has a bad reputation. Could it be constipation? Seen any poos in the box? If not, give him some canned pumpkin. You don't happen to have any lactulose laying around by chance? Pumpkin will be the next best thing that you can just run to the grocery and get tonight. I'd do it now, the sooner the better. Antibiotics can kill the good gut flora.. so if you have any probiotics, give him those too.. or plain yogurt (make sure it says it has live active bacteria on the label). If he hasn't moved his bowels in 3 days, it's considered an emergency, and you should get him to the vet first thing Monday. If he can't pee, you should take him within 24 hours, but you said he did pass a little pee. Phaewryn http://ucat.us The easy way out has a bad reputation. Why would anyone take the hard way out? I gave Junior some probiotics that you sent me. I cleaned out the litter boxes earlier today, so I cannot verify if he has pooed. I brought his box back into my bedroom so I can monitor the situation. He does not seem in distress at this time other than me giving him the dreaded eye ointments. I will try to get some pumpkin before I go to work. Or I could just cook the one sitting on my deck. I let you know how it goes. I think you need to find another vet that is willing to try different things for Junior. Why does he want you to have him put to sleep? I wouldn't go back to that vet. I had to change vets with Smokey and so far it has been the best decision. This new vet is willing to try different medicines and listens to me when I tell her what people on this list are trying on their babies. If your Junior is feeling better I just don't understand. Re: Junior
hope you find a new vet soon. wish i knew someone down there. perhaps try an internist at a larger hospital or vet school if there are any nearby, or a cat specialist. I think it is better to start IV. It is not prescription, and you have it, so all you really need is someone who can do IV shots, not necessarily a vet. If you know anyone in rescue, they will probably know someone who can do it. the woman who runs the shelter where my cats came from did the shots for mine. if you know any vet techs, they can definitely do it. re: Junior and Sally
Hi Sally,From what I am reading you don't need to make any decisions about putting Junior to sleep right this minute; is that correct? He has an upper respiratory infection that is being treated, and is he otherwise okay (other than being FeLV+), right? Why does the vet want to put him to sleep tomorrow? You've got a lot on your plate right now, and I can understand why you are emotionally drained. If Junior is basically alright despite the URI, why not just keep him separate for awhile from Tiny (like you are alreadydoing) and then make decisions as needed. It's too much to ask yourself to make decisions about all your kitties at one time. You need to process this.My thoughts and prayers are with you Sally.Gina Sally Davis [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi,Everyday that goes by I am more confused. Junior went to the vet today. Little Black showed up this morning. I usually let her in long enough for her to get her fill without the other cats harassing her. The FeLV cats were closed up in the bedrooms. She ate in peace. As far as I know when I do see her she only eats once a day, but she gobbles up a lot of food during that time.
