Zander was originally on prednisone and Doxycycline, when I added the Winstrol,
and the trio worked well so I didn’t touch anything (except to up the Winstrol
dose at the start of his treatment).

However, I was subsequently told by a senior veterinary researcher, that the
prednisone was a good addition because it would help to protect the liver from
the effect of the Winstrol.

Have vet appointment soon. Can't find the rationale for prednisone in Zander's
protocol.

Would like to have that information when I see Dr.

Re: [Felvtalk] prednisone

2014-06-03 Thread Marsha

Jetty,

Regarding prednisone - it will make a cat feel better and stimulate the
appetite. It also sometimes can shrink certain kinds of tumors
temporarily. But keep in mind that it also suppresses the immune
system, which you usually want to avoid in a FeLV+ cat. Prednisone /
Prednisolone is a great drug, but be sure to balance the benefits
against the negatives for each specific cat. Prednisone will suppress
inflammation, so it is harder to tell if your cat has developed an
infection. Infections in a FeLV+ cat need to be treated quickly and for
a longer time period.

Hi Lance,

thanks so much for your reply, very much appreciated. I checked on the
internet and found 10 ug at eur 152,00 at a webshop. Is that a price
which sounds reasonable to you as I have no clue at all. Talked to my
vet this afternoon and he was not that positive about using
interferon. Wallie seems to be doing right now he is eating a lot and
is feelling much better than when I let him in. The vet prescribed him
antibiotics and a prednisone treatment. If necessary will give him
this interferom as well,

Thanks Marsha, for your advise..all very welcome. I am very new to this
subject. I am the lucky owner of 6 healthy cats and do all the best I can
to make this little guy feel good..and he won't recover I will make sure
that he doesn't have to suffer.
