[Felvtalk] CBCs-Rosie and Murphy/Autumn update
Alice I am so happy for you and your two little ones. They are looking better both clinically and with respect to the lab values. That's fantastic I am so happy you started early with them. That seems to be their best chance at responding. I have heard a number of individuals whose cats turned negative after a few months of treatment. I really hope all continues to go well, please keep us updated. A quick note on Autumn. Her clinical symptoms continue to improve. She is eating very well, drinking and her energy is still improving. She looks more and more like herself everyday. I wish, however, that I had not waited so long. Her CBC is showing an increase in reticulocytes, lymphocytes and platelets. I may, however, have waited too long as there is some indication of MDS - it is basically red blood cells, platelets and neutrophils that are sickly - they don't develop properly and can lead to leukemia. I am hoping that I didn't wait too long and that she can overcome this. Potentially it is because her red blood cells are trying so hard to replicate that they look abnormal or it may be more serious. So her saga continues, but a single injection monthly is far less traumatic, painful and expensive than treating with all the other things normally associated with this disease. I will continue to give the injections, ambrotose and most importantly prayer. God bless you and your sweet little angels. Jenny P.S. Please do not be disheartened by the words of discouragement I have read in this forum recently. I do not understand it. I believe that sometimes the only thing that pulls us through is hope. Don't give up on that. If we never try, we will always fail. On Sun, Oct 4, 2009 at 8:00 PM, Hotmail Junk cstet...@hotmail.com wrote: WONDERFUL! Rosie's platelets are in the normal range too! She said there is a buzz in the office and they have been telling their other patients about this product and how it appears promising. We will retest in 2 weeks and will be cutting down from once weekly injections. This one tonight will only be the 3rd one. We are following the manufacturer's protocol to be sure it is effective. We did not wait for them to crash before starting the treatments, hoping to get months, not weeks-but it is looking better than that, but I am afraid to hope for too much-I am grateful for every healthy appearing day. ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org

Hi Sally, I really hope the blood work looks good for Lukey. I'll keep him in my prayers. Great news about the FIV cat. I have one FIV cat perhaps I will try the injection with him. [Felvtalk] Autumn update and everyone else
Hey everybody, I am so glad to hear all the positive things in the world of cat health going on in this group. Autumn is doing great. She is eating independently (and everyday a little bit more - in fact last night I had pizza and had to practically fight her off for the cheese.) Her energy level continues to improve - such that she is running after string again. She is still less than energetic than she was before all this started, but she continues to improve. So I am grateful to God, the LTCI injections and ambrotose. I am afraid I did not have the opportunity to get a CBC on her this weekend but I plan to shortly and will let you all know the results. I am glad to hear Lil bit is doing well and I hope lukey is improving as well. You are a great group of people with big hearts and I am so happy to know the world has people like you in it. God bless and I'll continue to keep you updated. Jenny ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org

glad someone else is having good luck with their babies. my Lil Bit was looking pretty rough and had lost a lot of weight so took her to vet and did a full panel on her and strted fluids and antibiotic right away. learned one thing, warm up the fluids to your own body temperature before giving them to your cat. she fused with me the first time (hadn't thought about warming fulids) then i got smart and put the bag in a bowl of warm water first. she still did not like getting stuck, but things went a lot smoother after that. did fluids 2 times a day. when blood work came back, her creatine and bun readings were off the chart. went back last week for recheck since she was looking much better, eatng better and her counts are normal. that baby food sure did come in handy during that time. it was easy for her to eat and she did like it. did not have to feed her, she ate it on her own. how lucky can a body get? continued good fortune for all with sick babies, it is almost as hard on us as it is on them. like a mother caring for her sick child. dorlis jbero tds.net jb...@tds.net wrote: Hey everyone, First of all, Sally, I am glad you are getting some food down him. No, because she is unwilling to talk to vets who have used it with success. She thinks they are either shilling for the company or are not practicing ethically. I actually think my vet is gifted and will continue to use her for my Scotties. She has tried a variety of 'out of the box' remedies for MeMe and I think she feels defeated by Felv. I am the one who is willing to pay for a wing and a prayer and I only ask that she is open to a remote possibility, and she is not. To date, I have brought MeMe back from the brink with her help, and I will continue to use Interferon and the remedies that she has recommended, but I want to have access to every bag of tricks, if and when I need them. We had attempted a transfusion with the second one, with not so good results-he was euthanized after having a reaction during the procedure. We quit counting after 6 grand. This has been a long, heartbreaking journey. With only the 2 cats left and they are just a tad over a year old, we can't give up. Reading about Autumn has given us hope that there is something out there that will help. We already are giving the Interferon Alpha 2x a day. Rosie and Murphy appear healthy, bright and shiny, playful-but so did her brothers until they just crashed fast. Maybe in Rosie's case it may be the female gene-her mother is still alive and feral, we TNR'd he last year and she has always appeared healthy-in fact since her spay, has become filled out and relaxed-we can even pet her on occaison. [Felvtalk] Autumn update and TCLI
Hey everyone, I just wanted to keep you updated on Autumn. Autumn's looking good. She's drinking water like it's going out of style - I tried to keep her hydrated while she was anorexic but she is far better at doing that herself. She's eating independently - for the first time in about two weeks and her energy is significantly better. She's watching the birds outside and comes running to the door when I get there. I just got the results of the CBC this morning. Her hematocrit is 11.5 (first visit - 8, at ER - 4, after transfusion - 18, now 11.5) The impressive thing is that on her initial CBC she had very early, somewhat bizarre looking, immature RBCs in her blood. Now these cells are gone. Felv has a tendency to arrest RBC maturation so that the bone marrow sends out immature cells which are basically useless to the body. The fact that these cells are gone is very promising to me. I am not surprised that her hematocrit dropped since the transfusion - she was yellow for four days suggesting that she destroyed a large number of the transfused cells. So given the significant improvement in her energy, the loss of immature RBCs and a hematocrit that's 11.5, I am optimistic but still cautious. By the way, if anyone is going to try this injection, I should let you know that in addition to the shot I did the following: prayed a lot, and fed her A/D food with Ambrotrose mixed in (an alternative medicine supplement from the Aloe plant that has shown in some small studies to help with the quality of life and destruction of virus in Felv+ cats. To the best of my knowledge the only place making it is Mannatech corporation - easy to order with no prescription required.) Anyway, I really think there is promise and hope for all the Felv and FIV + cats out there. I plan on giving her another injection in one week and will reorder a CBC in two weeks. I will let you know the results when I get them. Good luck and God bless to you all. [Felvtalk] Imulan and Autumn update
Hello everyone, I wanted to give you an update on Autumn and the TCLI injection(Imulan). When I brought her to the emergency center last Tuesday, she was starting with respiratory distress and crying out. Her hematocrit was 4%. She was on her way out. She got the transfusion - they called me about 1/4 of the way through and told me they didn't think she'd make it. She did. Since she's been home, each day her energy is improving. I got the second injection of TCLI and administered it on Saturday. Everyday she's looking better. She's sitting up, walking and drinking independently. This may only be the effects of the transfusion, so I am holding off judgement for now. I will be getting a CBC this week to see what we're dealing with. In the meantime, I am praying, and have her on Ambrotrose (a glycoprotein supplement thought to help in the fight against felv), vitamin supplements and intermittently transfer factor. She hemolyzed (destroyed) many of the red blood cells after the transfusion as she turned yellow (jaundice - secondary to breakdown of hemoglobin) but clinically her energy is improving and her alertness returning. I will keep you updated. I pray that there is hope in this injection. It seems to me that the science is pretty sound. Most vets aren't aware of this product and have a lot of suspicion surrounding any treatment to felv+. It is reasonable since their vet school training told them it was a fatal and untreatable disease. Most of us have experienced that first hand. I had to search long and hard to find a vet that could help me, but if you call Imulan directly they are happy to talk with you or your vet. I have nothing but good experiences with them so far. We shall see, good luck everyone. Jenny On 8/30/09, Alice Flowers aliceflow...@sbcglobal.net wrote: After hearing about this product-I called our vet here in Sacramento and she agreed to order it for us. I want to try it because we lost the 4th kitty this morning-my son drove him to UC Davis emergency early this morning because he was struggling to breath and crying out. Buster, the first to die-screamed out...Oni died in Corey's arms. I still have the sister, Rosie and another cat-Murphy, the tuxedo polydactyl that was dumped into the feral colony that the litter came from-he was positive also. So why do I want to try this product? I have HOPE that it may prolong Rosie and Murphy's lives-These 6 have been on antibiotics most of their lives-Finally now it's been a good month and a half without them, maybe we've turned a corner. We have upped them to Interferon 2x a day. When the FeLV switch gets tripped-they just crash so fast. If we can postpone it for months or years.that's great. We are down to 2 cats left out of 6-we have cried rivers of tears, and spent over 6 grand-and we weren't cat people a year ago. How do we know it will work? We don'tbut if we don't try, no one will know. What I do know is that Rosie is due to die soon-being from the same litter, she is due to crash with anemia like all her brothers. But I have HOPE, otherwise I should just euthanize the last 2 now and call it a day. Rosie and Murphy are racing up and down the hallway and up the cat trees right now-they are healthy (appearing), loving and happy. They are a year old-I think they deserve to live longer. Re: [Felvtalk] Imulan and Autumn update
I do hope that Autumn gets better with the LTCI. If she comes back by any means from a HCT level of 4%, it will be quite a feat. Just a couple of comments. First, as far as I have seen, there is very little science to back up Imulan's claims. There have been no real trials, just short term, limited and sometimes not well controlled or documented, experiments. Second, if they are more than happy to talk to you, they have changed their ways since I called. When I called (some months ago) they would not discuss any technical info with me and when my vets office called they wouldn't discuss it with anyone but the vet himself. I would love it if they would run a real trial, but I fear they are now making so much money as things are right now, they will never do it. They just ran a very short (couple of months) trial of using LTCI on cats with the dry form of FIP. There is a lady on the FIP list that had several of her allegedly FIP positive cats in the trial. The criteria for getting a cat into the trial excluded cats with some of the most common symptoms of dry FIP and did not even require complete blood work. They seemed to concentrate on a feline corona virus titer test, which, even the company who makes it admits does not diagnose FIP, it is only an indicator. For Autumn's sake I hope it works. There have been reports of it helping and reports of it not doing anything noticeable. Re: Autumn - Update amd Transfer Factor Question
I get mine thru my holistic vet which is no help to you. However, you can do a Google search. Re: vaccinations. There is no way I would ever consider vaccinating a cat with a compromised immune system and I have regular as well as holistic vets who support this decision. If she is an indoor cat you have very little to be concerned with. I would take the odds and just ignore the vaccinations. If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow man. Did you know Autumn could throw the virus over time if her immune system will fight it off? :) Wendy Dallas, TX Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world - indeed it is the only thing that ever has! ~~~ Margaret Meade ~~~ - Original Message From: Susan Ang [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: felvtalk@felineleukemia.org Sent: Wednesday, September 26, 2007 5:12:00 PM Subject: Autumn - Update Thanks to everyone who responded. Autumn is about 11 weeks old. She has really responded the treatments and has perked up considerably. The Pedialyte definitely helped. Once we brought her home from vet, I started her immediately on her antibiotics, but within the hour she had vomiting and diarrhea. She was very weak and so I would smear Nutri Cal on her paws and squirt Pedialyte in her mouth. After every treatment she would perk up and the vomiting stopped that night. She still had diarrhea the next morning but I was able to get her to start eating the prescription food off my fingers. Today she is playful, but thin. We're trying to fatten her up a bit and get her energy levels back up. She's such a precious blessing, we are very grateful that she turned around. ~Susan A. Shape Yahoo! in your own image. Re: Autumn - Update
Hi Susan I'm happy to hear Autumn is doing better. Here is a link to the list for the Association of Homeopathic Veterinarians: http://www.holisticvetlist.com/ I use both an allopathic and homeopathic vet and with the help of really generous and experienced people on this list, my once very symptomatic Felv kitten is doing well. Her progress has occurred over several months and it has never been without setbacks. Getting Autumn to eat and hopefully put some weight on is the important first step. If you go through the archives of this list, there are many good suggestions for appetite stimulants. Giving her food that is warm is one that helped me...also, I put warm water on wet food (really gross) and find that she will begin to lap up the water and then the food. It is a soup of sorts, but she gets it down. My homeopathic vet has come up with a remedy that is being used in Africa (with some success for Hiv/Aids). It is called Thulium met, and I think it has helped my cat in several ways. I give her several supplements, so it is difficult to know exactly what is doing what, but about one week after the first treatment we were able to get rid of diarrhea, which had been impossible to treat. In terms of swollen glands, hopefully as her immune system gets stronger, they will go down. Getting her to eat and gain weight is the first step. The supplements and remedies that helped MeMe were; Thulium met (homeopathic remedy) liquid DMG (to boost immunity) l-lycine ( helps fight viruses) Forti-Flora (probotic} to increase immunity, support digestive tract and treat diarrhea Just Born (with colostrum ) caloric supplement I am sorry this list has been in such turmoil when you really need help. Please continue to ask questions and report Autumn's symptoms. There are enough people here to help you. We're rooting for you and Autumn. Thanks for the link. I have a holistic vet but like to be able to point friends in other areas of the country to a source. Re: Autumn - Update
Susan, I'm very glad to read that Autumn is doing better. I've been thinking about her. I hope that you'll look into homeopathic vets in your area. Ember's homeopathic vet has put her on Liquid DMG and Transfer Factor, and I believe these supplements have helped her to stay healthy. My holistic vet recommends Transfer Factor for Felines a lot. It seems to help.
