This is the location of the Wild Animal Orphanage
(they also run Cat Haven http://www.catsanctuary.org/ ,
which is most likely the facility the cats were actually taken to, not the wild
animal sanctuary). I am familiar with them because my SECOND cause is wild cat
conservation, they are a GREAT organization.

If you have taken a cat to the Wild Cat Ranch, and
wish to reclaim him/her, please contact the SPCA as soon as possible, especially
if your cat is positive for FIV or FELV, as the SPCA most likely does not
have the facilities to adopt out these cats, and most likely they will be
euthanised once the court date passes.

Okay, now that the warrant's been served and the cats
seized, I'm
allowed to release information on this situation! The facility
that
was seized
upon was Wild Cat Ranch (www.wildcatranch.net) - it
was
basically a "retirement" facility. When people can't continue to
care
for their cats, they send them to this place and pay a stipend
for the cat's
care. They also take in FeLV and FIV kitties and have
a feral colony. From
what I was told, there have been allegations
of abuse/neglect for years - the
SPCA of Texas would go down,
investigate, give warnings, the facility would
clean up it's act for
a while.
Apparently there's one "model" cat building
that people
are shown - but that's not where most of the cats reside. Most
of
the cats are living in corrugated metal sheds with dirt floors.
From
what I was told, terrible living conditions. What finally
sparked the seizure
- the IRS was investigating the money aspect of
the operation for fraud.
People's cats would die, they would not be
informed of the death, and the
facility would continue to take
payments from the owners. All of the cats
have been moved to the
Wild Animal Orphanage temporarily - until placement
can be found. I
have no idea what they are going to do with the feral and
the
positives. Very sad. More details will be following about what kind
of
homes/rescue will be needed for the cats! Feel free to
crosspost!
