How very sad. This is near where I was raised...so I can feel it very deeply. I have heard San Francisco has become very progressive in caring for it's homeless pet populations, as well as everything to do with controlling it's pet populations.Is anyone familiar with their policies, as I am always interested in learning the different secrets of success.I think Las Vegas, Nevada is another such place??? Anyway, it would seem, if this is the case ,with a fair amount of publicity to make people aware of this tragedy, there might be an out pouring of sympathy for these cats...I guess I am just being hopeful? I have forwarded to some other groups that I know have branches in the SF area. Yes, this is our biggest nightmare. It happened to my vet, who has 70+ cats. Luckily, the fire dept. came very quickly. The dryer caught fire. Always clean the lint, and have done professionally @ least once per year. And NEVER run it if you are not home. While Sheila always cleaned out the lint, it can also collect inside the dryer the vent, very dangerous. Her mother, who has since passed away, was in her room completely unaware the house was on fire. She had dementia, and had turned on the dryer. Sheila had just ran to the store up the street for something, and her daughter just happened to stop in to visit, which probably saved everything, house, cats mom. Susan J. Kelly, I have people that are trying to call her to help. One person I know has offer her living arrangements. She left a message on one of her phones and couldn't get through on the other. Her name is Ellen as she is a purebred rescuer and knows Susan. Has a fund been started to help in this time of need? I have some that would like to help donate. I talked to a lady last night (I'm not sure the name, I was asleep - she didn't know I was in TX) who was returning Susan's calls. I have soem people on the PF boards who are willing to help with material items..does she need litterboxes, flea meds, cat meds, carriers...litter scoops..all the little things you could lose and not think of... This lady told me the thing they need most is homes or foster homes for cats. Unfortunately I am unable to help with that, from Texas. Kelly, I'm getting you guys on digest now and am having a hard time finding where you posted the paypal account to send donations for Susan and her kids to. Could you please repost it, with a link if possible? I've called a rescue-friend that lives in the Bay area and she said she will start networking to see what can be done to help. I just can't believe it, this truly is our worst nightmare come true for Susan and her charges. I'm sending prayers and soothing energy to help Susan and her cats rally and get through this. Susan is always so willing to pitch in and help those in need, I just know that she will be paid back 100 fold for all her kind deeds.
