I also treat with Advantage only when needed. When I brought my new kitten
into my home last year she had fleas. I started my adult cats on Advantage,
and after she was old enough, I treated everyone with Advantage for two months.
This took care of the fleas. My cats are 100% indoors though.

Laurie, I wish you the best with your furbaby. I hope her fever comes under
control.

Hi. We rescued a one to two year old cat about 5weeks ago. She has had a
temp anywhere from normal (June 19) to 107 (June26). Her blood work this
week indicates she has a low white blood count and isalso anemic. She has
no other symptoms (other than recent lethargy) and isstill interested in
food.

   We started interferon 7 days on/ 7 days off2 1/2 weeks ago. Isabella's
temp was normal after the 7 days on and 107 after7 days off. The interferon
was started again 3 nights ago and today's temp was104.2. She has weighed
8.5, 8.4, 8.9 (10 days ago ~ this was also the day hertemp was normal).
Tuesday, June 26, she weighed 8.8 and today 8.7. Shegot fluids Tuesday and
today (Thursday).

We are also giving her feline transfer factor. She was on Clavamox for
about a week and then switched to Zeniquin( for about16 days now) when her
temp was 105.5. Discontinued Zeniquin today and startedan anti-inflammatory
(metacam, I believe) that she will take for 3 days.

She is a wonderful companion. Easy to care for.Impeccable manners. Talks
and purrs and plays when she feels good. If anyonehas suggestions about why
the temp and what to do about the temp, WBC and RBC,we would be grateful.
Thanks!
ps we applied Revolution May 23 and June 23. Shereacted with fur on end
June 23.

new here ~ feleuk+ cat with high temp ~blood work and other Qs

2007-06-30 Thread laurieskatz
Hello and many thanks to all who responded (what a knowledgable and
supportive group).

Q: Is the immunoregulin something I would use instead of interferon?
For those who responded about Revolution ~ we won't use this again. One of
my cats with allergies responded very negatively to Advantage. So, I just
have to hope we keep fleas at bay. We are 100% indoors but I work in my
wildlife friendly yard and understand I could bring one inside.

What is IM, please?

Isabella's counts were as follows: (numbers in parens are normal ranges)
WBC 3.65 (5.5-19.5)
HCT 20.6 (30-45)
RBC 3.72 (5-10)
HGB 8.1 (9-15.1)
GLOB (globulin?) 6.2 (2.8-5.1)
Total protein 9.1 (5.7-8.9)
Her Neut(?), Eosiniphils and PLT were all below normal
MCHC and MCH were above normal

The numbers that were desginated as being most dramatically off were:
Glob, Neut,HCT, RBC. MCHC and MCH

Any input greatly appreciatedthanks!

Laurie,

My cat Smokey had the same problem with fevers. After
many different stays in the hospital and 1 doctor at
my vet's office that didn't really seem like she
wanted to help Smokey I changed the vet he goes to.
The new vet started him on the immunoregulin. She had
me give it to him subq. It says IV but Smokey would
have never let her or me do that. We started giving
him injections 2 times a week for a month or so then
gradually decreased the dosage. Now I give it to him
once a month. It has been well over a year since he
has had a fever. I hope this might help you with
Isabella.

I won't use Revolution anymore. Back in May we went
camping and I took my diabetic cat (Katie) with us. I
used it because I was worried about mosquitoes getting
into the camper. This was the first time I had ever
used it. I know Katie had a reaction to it because
she developed diarrhea. She didn't have it before I
put it on her. Her skin became really flaky too.

I hope your Isabella starts feeling better soon.

Laurie,

I am facing the exact same thing as you are at the
moment except Ki won't eat.

The metacam worked for us, but the minute he was off
it, the fever started again. The bloodwork should come
back today, but i know he is amemic. We tried
Clavamox, clindrops, and baytril. We are now on a new
thing for me, anyway...delta albaplex. It has pred
and a few antibiotics. Fever is still up and down, but
doesn't seem to be quite as high when it spikes.

I ordered immuno-regulan (sp) from revival. Should be
here today. People on this list have recommended it.
They can chime in a tell you about it.

Needless to say, Iam very fustrated and worried. We
adopted Ki at 12 wks old. I just couldn't give him
back. I had never had an FeLV cat before...had
everything else, it seems. I love him very much, and
so want him to make it.

Stay on the list, and folks will help you.

Hi

Junior went through this last fall. In addition to antibiotics he also did
the immunoregulin. I think that was what got him past the fevers and anemia.
He also had gingivitis that the IR took care of. Is he out of the woods no.
He is still here and stable.

I do the IR monthly as maintenance sub Q. He got the original protocol IV.
He also gets Transfer Factor, Manapol, and fish oil. I am hoping he does not
have to go back on the metacam. For now he will get a break from it.

Good Luck

Re: new here ~ feleuk+ cat with high temp

2007-06-29 Thread Sally Davis

Dede

I am a bit slow reading my emails. The manapol is something I recently
added. I lost the original email with the cheapest place to get it but I
think the price I paid was close. It is derived from aloe, acemannan in a
powder form that you mix with food. I was using 4 life Transfer Factor Plus
which is quite expensive(IMO). I switched to Wellness Transfer Factor which
I was able to purchase from the same company as the Manapol. I am using
Salmon Oil as the fish oil supplement. I do not know if it is helping.
Junior has glaucoma in his blind eye which can be painful and he also has
inflammation causing hemaetomas in his ears. I am not sure what the
theraputic dose is for the Salmon oil. I put a capsule in his food a day. I
got all three items from www.betterlife.com .

I am not all that familiar with stomatitis. It would be inflammatory so the
Salmon oil wouldn't hurt and may help and the IR helped Junior's gingivitis
so it might be worth a try.

Before I ordered the Manapol I was just using the 4life Transfer Factor Plus
formula, and I do think it helped Junior, he had been on it for several
months. I wanted to add the Manapol and I felt I could not afford the more
expensive Transfer Factor and the Manapol. Both products are immune boosters
as is the IR.

I am still on a learning curve with this disease. I feel what works for one
may not work for another.

Good Luck

Sally

new here ~ feleuk+ cat with high temp

2007-06-28 Thread laurieskatz
Hi. We rescued a one to two year old cat about 5 weeks ago. She has had a temp
anywhere from normal (June 19) to 107 (June 26). Her blood work this week
indicates she has a low white blood count and is also anemic. She has no other
symptoms (other than recent lethargy) and is still interested in food.

We started interferon 7 days on/ 7 days off 2 1/2 weeks ago. Isabella's temp
was normal after the 7 days on and 107 after 7 days off. The interferon was
started again 3 nights ago and today's temp was 104.2. She has weighed 8.5,
8.4, 8.9 (10 days ago ~ this was also the day her temp was normal). Tuesday,
June 26, she weighed 8.8 and today 8.7. She got fluids Tuesday and today
(Thursday).

We are also giving her feline transfer factor. She was on Clavamox for about a
week and then switched to Zeniquin( for about 16 days now) when her temp was
105.5. Discontinued Zeniquin today and started an anti-inflammatory (metacam, I
believe) that she will take for 3 days.

She is a wonderful companion. Easy to care for. Impeccable manners. Talks and
purrs and plays when she feels good. If anyone has suggestions about why the
temp and what to do about the temp, WBC and RBC, we would be grateful. Thanks!
ps we applied Revolution May 23 and June 23. She reacted with fur on end June
23.

Hi Laurie,

Welcome to the group. I'm sorry to hear that Isabella
is having a lot of trouble with anemia and fevers.
One of the things we like to suggest for fevers is
ImmunoRegulin. It helps to bring the fever down, but
we don't really know why. It's only through
experience with some of our members. You can get IR
at Revival Animal Health; it's under the generic name
EqStim.

I don't have any suggestions as to why your kitty is
having the fevers, other than the leukemia has 'kicked
in' and is triggering the anemia and fevers. It's not
uncommon to see this, but at the same time, it's not a
good thing. That being said, it doesn't mean things
can't be turned around. A lot depends on what type of
anemia your kitty has and what is causing it. What is
your kitty's HCT? What type of anemia did the vet say
it is? Those two things will determine how to treat
the anemia. One thing that should also be mentioned
is hemobartanella. It is a blood parasite that is
very hard to detect on a slide, and is common in FeLV+
kitties with anemia. This is why many times vets go
ahead and prescribe doxycycline for anemic cats
because that's what's given for hemobart and it won't
hurt kitty if there is no hemobart. Doxy must be
given for at least three weeks to be effective with
hemobart.

I have seen animals have bad reactions to Revolution.
I won't use it. I will use Advantage however. On
immune compromised cats, I won't use anything. I have
an 18 year old cat who is hyperthyroid and she did not
get flea meds this year, although she's inside 99.9%
of the time.

Thank goodness Isabella is still eating. A good diet
and keeping her stress free are the two most important
things you can do for her. Let us know if you have
anymore questions.
:)
Wendy
