Karen,

What a heartwarming story.  I am so sorry about Blue, but it looks like there have been a number of lucky cats, including Blue, who happened to cross your path.

Take care and thank you for your wonderful caring,

Joan

Hi Everyone,

It's been a very hard stretch. Abby who lived at my office with her
brother (both were felv+) was diagnosed suddenly (she had been in
great health) at the end of Feb 03. She and Harry, who were
2 1/2 years old, were two of the most loving cats that I have ever
been blessed to know. Abby went into remission, and did very well. In
July 03, Harry was diagnosed with lymphoma as well. Unfortunately,
Harry's was farther advanced, and we lost him early in Oct. When Abby
was first diagnosed, little did I ever think that Harry would be gone
before her.

I had my doubts about taking more felv+ cats at this time, so much
heart ache. But Abby and Harry had other plans for us. Abby seemed to
be very healthy , and also very lonely without Harry, to whom she had
been so close. We started to look for another felv! + cat to keep her
company.

Late in Nov. we found Flutie, a 6 month old bundle of orange joy. He
fell in love with Abby, eased Abby's aching heart and brought joy
back to her life, and to ours. It was with great sadness that in mid
Jan 04 we found that Abby had come out of remission, and two days
later lost her.

Flutie is a very social cat, and we knew that he needed a new friend
asap. We found another felv+ boy (10 month old kitten) Moon, and
decided to adopt him for Flutie. Moon had been living his whole life
with his brother Blue, whose nose had turned white, and who had
started to fade. The wonderful folks at the rescue group made the
hard choice to adopt Moon out by himself, so that he would get a home
and have a companion (they were going to care for Blue for the few
remaining days that he had).

Late in Jan we went to pick up Moon, and met Blue as well. We had
actually started the drive back home before we! realized that we were
making a terrible mistake to separate Moon and his brother Blue. We
went back and took Blue as well.

What a lucky choice for us. Blue was a remarkable spirit, his soul
shone through his eyes. He loved being close, and had a purr that
melted hearts. When we took him to our vet here, he said that Blue
was not making any rbc (probably had leukemia) and that there was
nothing to do for Blue but make him comfotable. Luckily we had a hard
time accepting this news, and kept asking different vets until Abby
and Harry's oncologist said that were some things that we could try.
We did a whole range of things; zithromax, doxi, pred, cyclosporine,
oxigolgin, iron supplements and transfusions. Unfortunately, none of
these were able to help Blue make his own rbcs, and on Tuesday of
this week, we finally lost our beautiful boy.

Although Blue's pcv was sometimes as low as 4, and never higher than
12, he was remar! kable. He enjoyed everyday. He loved being with his
brother and Flutie, loved listening to the birds, loved cuddling in
laps and on shoulders. He taught us so much about living everyday to
it's fullest. We only were blessed with Blue's presence for a little
over 2 months. It's hard to imagine it was such a short time, he had
such an impact on everyone who met him. I guess it really isn't the
length of life, it's the quality, and Blue's was the best. We have
just finished his web page for anyone who would like to take a look.
It's at http://kenpope.com/bluemoonflutie/blue.php

Moon and Flutie are doing wonderfully together, but we are all
missing our beautiful Blue boy.
Thanks so much to everyone for your help and support during this time.
Karen, Angels Abby, Harry& Blue and the boys
