Chere,

I am so sorry for your loss of Henry VIII.  I too have lost some wonderful outside ferals.  It is a good feeling when you can build a relationship with them and that why it hurts so much when they leave us.

Take care,

Joan

Would you add Henry VIII (the 8th) to the Candle Light Service list. He was
the largest black cat Gene and I have ever seen--his face must have been 8
inches in circumfrence and he waddled when he walked, but he ruled the
neighborhood. He crossed the bridge the day after Thanksgiving.

He had been coming to our courtyard from the corner of the woods for at
least 7 and a half years. He would never get to close, but always waited
for us to put out food--usually Sneaker's leftovers. He ate so sloppily and
feverishly, that he reminded of a big Henry the 8th devouring a turkey leg
and leaving a huge mess.

He was the big black cat I mentioned last summer -- the one who was
protecting and bringing food to Honey's new babies (Blackie, Blondie and
Stripe). They are now named Mr. Black, Jack and Peep (in honor of Julie's
Peep).
!
On Nov. 28, during the cold, windy, wet and dark day, Gene stepped outside
to walk to his car and noticed a huge black cat laying lifelessly next to
the wood pile--close to the glass doors where Honey's babies often sit and
look out. I am sure the big guy was trying to watch over them even from
outside.

We do not know how or why he died, but we miss him and his large presence in
our yard. One minute he was alive and just a quickly, he was gone. We
don't know why.

We are burying him today at 2 p.m. under the tree that joins the edge of
the woods, where we watched him snoop to get to our house and watch the
babies or to try to tease Sneakers. We will be saying a prayer service for
him so he will know that someone always loved him and that he was never
alone.
Sincerely,
Chere
