For what it's worth I just had Buzz, my FeLV cat neutered last Thursday. The
vet said the stress of neutering would be much less then the stress they go
though when they want to roam and mate. He came through it amazingly well,
even that evening I could hardly tell he had the procedure done.
Another thought: When Dixie was tested she was scheduled to be
spayed. The vets, whom it trust beyond words, recommended that she be
spayed at a later date when I had decided what to do with her and when
she was less stressed and healthier (better fed, supplements
whatever). The theory
Charlie is on oral prednezone (?) and he only gets it when his athsma flares
up. He has been healthy almost a year now with both his athsma and his eyes.
His eyes were so bad at one point that they looked like bright red marbles in
his head and the specialist vet I was taking him to couldn't
If he's healthy now, then do it. Feleuk cats are prone to cancers- a lot of
times, that is what gets them in the end, particularly lymphoscarcoma.
Lymphosarcoma is the most common form of cancer in cats and dogs- feleuk or
otherwise. But the incidence in Felv+ cats is even higher. This is
Does anyone know anything about a San Diego area rescue called Chateau De
Meow? Someone I know sent some FIV and FeLV cats there recently but I can't
find any info on the place and I'm a little concerned. Supposedly they are a
no kill rescue/sanctuary and they have an active adoption
Thank you so much for the information. I have already called a pet store near
where I live and they tell me they carry the Wellness canned food and the
Natures Basket. It wouldn't hurt for all of my cats to be on it, they are
getting a little tubby. Watch out, IAMS and 9-Lives stock will
I know we give Thuja on the day of any vaccinations to help the body deal with
that stress and the immune response. I have the dose at home and can't
remember it now. Dr. Maier says Thuja is a must to have on hand when doing
rescue work. It's also given to any cat that had vaccs in the past
Ask the vet if you can be there. All he/she can say is no. A lot
don't want a person there because she may faint, etc. and distract
them from the welfare of the cat.

May I ask you about your cat Tucker and having to have all his teeth removed.
My Bea is FeLV + I've been battling the same thing as Tucker - because of her
FeLV status, she can't fight the bacteria on her teeth. I've been doing almost
monthly courses of Clavamox/Prednisone. I've been
What did your holistic vet say about remedies to give a cat under
going stress? I know Dr. Maier has a number she uses but I am out of
touch with them. They could help reduce the stress and reverse any
drugs given. I will never vaccinate Dixie given her status. She is
Oh, maybe that is what they meant Kerry. I'm just very sensitive and probably
over protective of him. I sometimes I think I aggravate him because I go and
check to see what he's doing every few minutes. He's sleeping on the stairs,
on his back with all four legs sticking up in the air.
We just had Autumn spayed three weeks ago and there were no complications.
She has reacted badly to vaccinations in the past so we were very nervous,
but she came through with flying colors. The did a pre-op blood test for
kidney and liver function. They also sent us home with 10 days worth of
Great idea re pre-op blood work, too.
Prayers for Booboo and his humans tomorrow!!

Hi Lynne, I took the comment to mean they wouldn't want to stress BooBoo
out any more than necessary, as stress depletes their already depleted
immune system and vet clinic is always stressful. I hope that's what
pre-op blood work is really important, so if it hasn't been done yet, I
recommend it. since I have more experience with geriatric cats, our vet always
did it before even considering a tooth cleaning b/c of the risk of putting an
old cat under. it tells the vet a lot. we had one the we
Yes, please ask your sister. I was considering sending an FIV+ cat there but
I'm sure it's stable enough and I'm not so sure they're really proactive on
adoptions. It sounds like, at best, a sanctuary operation, rather than a
rescue that fosters until adoption

Does Dr. Maier do phone consults?
I'm so sorry for your losses.
I may have found an attorney, would like to talk to you when you feel able.

My cat Calpurrnia had to have all her teeth removed several months ago as they
were terribly infected. She is NOT leukemia positive so this may not pertain
to a cat who is. However, my vet had me give her 25 mg twice a day of

Help! I seem to be having trouble getting around in this talk group. Are
there directions anywhere on the website that would help? Or a FeLV talk for
