Re: [Felvtalk] Could anyone help?

2009-01-29 Thread jbero
Hey everyone,

I just wanted to thank all of you for your help, insight and suggestions. To
answer your questions.

The DA is in Washington County - Todd Martens, sorry not Milwaukee. I am sorry
you have had a problem with the DA there, not a promising thought if we need to
expand our scope.

I am not familiar with the entity that oversee charities in Wisconsin, I will
look into it. Thanks. We have, however, reported them to the IRS - who have
them as a non for profit exempt organization but are strangely missing any
information more than that. They are doing a formal investigation.

We have had many people do formal complaints with the sheriff's department who
don't seem to know what to do with it. It is encouraging that it could be done
in Cananda. Ultimately, how do they get shut down? Was it by law, was there
court intervention or was the sheriff's department the group that shut them
down or some other organization?

Finally, I would like to respond to Kelley S. I did in fact go there and
volunteer my time and money in an attempt to improve the situation, as have
many other before and after me. I met up with extreme resistance. I was told
the shelter needed to stay in less than adequate conditions so people would
continue to donate money. The resources, funds and people exist to change and
improve the facility. It is the manager and her husband that refuse to allow
it.
Also, I do not use the term hoarder lightly. There are many wonderful people
that have far too many animals. The difference is that these people take
proper care of the animals they have, they know their limits and understand
when they need help. There comes a point when, even though you think you are
benefiting these animals by sacrificing your time, money and effort; you are
in reality making them suffer because you cannot give them what they need with
respect to food, water, shelter, love and medical care. When you lose sight of
this line, you become a hoarder. So thank you for your input, but it seems
that perhaps you do not have a full understanding of the situation I have
described.

Thank all you for your support and input. I deeply appreciate it.

[Felvtalk] Could anyone help?

2009-01-29 Thread Patricia . A . Elkins
In 2008, a large private no-kill rescue in western PA was raided and shut
down for bad conditions.
I can't remember the name of it - but maybe it was Tiger Ranch. There
were plenty of news articles on it.

Why don't you check into who the authorities were in that case and maybe
that can give you
a lead on who in your area would be the comparable people to go to.

I'm sorry that I don't have time right now to look it up and give you the
details.

There is plenty of debate over whether or not that raid was appropriate.

In the state of Wisconsin, charities are overseen by the dept of regulation
and licensing. It might be worth going thru them as if this place is
collecting monies and not spending on the animals, then they are clearly in
violation. If they collect monies and don't have the IRS status necessary,
they are in violation. Also, have you enlisted the help of any of the
larger shelters in the area?
