Glad you were able to get away!
I just read a whole expose on the nuclear power plant in Buchanan, NY -
extremely unsafe, shut down several times, Governor Cuomo wanted to shut it
down when he was still Attorney General, and definitely now - tons of
radiated water was spewing into the Hudson River, people are fishing there,
studies have shown that in the areas, there's radiation in mothers' milk,
children's teeth (the ones that fall out), and many thyroid cancers, etc.
We happen to be in the danger radius of that plant and I NEVER heard of this
beforeevacuation of all those millions of people is impossible should
something happen!

house was still okay, just the grounds were messed up, and in a few
months the small town we lived in ran water lines out there, so we
all had drinkable water again. We didn't make any money on the sale
of the house, but we did get enough to get out of there.

Re: Pollution, dangerous chemicals in our water, food etc.

At one time we owned 45 acres of land, and they drilled one of
those gas wells. The noise was horrific, and they used all kinds of
extremely toxic chemicals when they did the fracking. The trucks that
came carrying these chemicals had hazard warning all over them, and
the fracking fluid ruined the water in everyone's springs and wells.
We did not own our mineral rights, so we had to let them drill on our
land, otherwise there's no way we would have let them do it. After
the well was drilled our road was ruined from all the trucks and
heavy equiptment, and the county refused to repair it as it was the
fault of the gas drilling. It was a nightmare, and we had to move to
get away from there. Now, eleven years later, and 150 miles away,
they are talking about drilling for gas here! The people around us
are all anxious to have gas wells on their land because they are stupid
enough to think they'll get big bucks. We never got a cent in spite
of all the promises they made us. Don't ever let them drill on your
property!

People just see dollar signs and that is all. We've had several town
meetings and I remember a group of elderly people walking through the door
asking what do you want me to say when they were approached by reps from the
drilling company. They were handed a speech to read and a sticker to wear
that read yes for gas drilling. It was truly sickening!

In my town a bunch of us got together, knocked on doors, and told residents
about what was going to happen if they signed. Also, there is imminent
domain that allows them to do it anyway. The surface right owners apparently
have no rights either. Sad!!

That's disgusting, and sad. The thing is that people always hear just what
they want to hear, and won't countenance any info that doesn't fit with
their world view. And (without trying to crawl up on the soapbox) some
politicians are way too eager to capitalize on people's fears, and it's in
their best interests to keep those people as uninformed and misinformed as
possible.
