Well, as much as it stresses her out to take her to the vet, I am taking her back in next Wed. And probably every week for awhile. I asked the tech why so many things were not tested for her blood draw yesterday. She said I needed to ask for a CBC Chem 17 if I wanted that. I didn’t even know what that was. I do now. So I said, mark the file, every time she is there for blood tests, I want the CBC Chem 17. Gees. I will for sure be watching the wind very closely Amani! Re: [Felvtalk] Bogey's Blood Test Today These look worse PG 2
Hi Amani, In all honesty I was shocked when I compared her last liver test to this one. She is eating so well and drinking. She got so much strength back that I don’t have to kennel her. She is handling the stairs just fine. Urine is clear and great easy bowel movements. When the doc was talking to me he was so positive and happy. I But really he said almost nothing about her liver issues. I walked out of there feeling as high as a kite. Not sure why they didn’t do the Total Bilirubin. I asked them to. I haven’t started the Doxy yet but I will here this morning when she is done playing with her bottle cap. I will call the vet’s office first thing to see about getting the Clavamox and ask them to have the vet to please compare the last two liver tests and see if he still feels she should start the Winstrol because I am not. (I don’t think he even looked at the liver enzymes page or he would probably want me to wait too) They are closed for 5 days over the Holidays. I want to make sure we are on the same page prior to that. I was hoping the hematocrit was in the 20s when I took her in for her last test so I feel like we could wait until next week. Her RBC went from 4.99 to 5.57 this week too. Just amazing. I changed her kibble last week when she had a few days of diarrhea after being. I added to her Blue Buffalo some Hills Sensitive Stomach and Skin. She loves the stuff but am wondering if that change has added to this flair up she is having. I am going to start a another thread here on food and nutrition. Vet had said to get her to eat, eat, eat. And I did. Thank you Amani as always. The rest of the biochemistry tests look fine, but the ALT and AST have gone up, and they didn’t repeat either the Total Bilirubin or the GGT, which are the other results that assist in assessing the liver. However, Bogey is doing better by your description, so be patient and continue with what you are doing. I still think that you could hold off for another little while on the Winstrol and Doxycyline and that is supported by the liver enzyme test results. However, there has been a noticeable drop in the haematocrit. You’re still within the reference range, but this is the same thing I had witnessed with my cat, and how I affirmed for myself that it was the Winstrol/Doxycyline which was causing the increase in the red cell parameters, because every time I tried to reduce the dosage or stop the medication, I would see an immediate drop in the numbers. It seems pretty clear that (a) the increase you saw at the end of October was because you added the Doxycycline to the Winstrol treatment regime. You got a dramatic jump in the numbers. Now, when you stopped the Doxycycline/Winstrol, you see a definitive drop in haematocrit levels. However, as I said, you still have a significant cushion before the numbers get concerning again. I agree with your vet that your cat has some sort of bacterial infection. The significant number in white cells is quite marked, and when you see the breakdown, that increase in white cells is almost completely composed of neutrophils, which is the type of cell which increases in the presence of bacteria, versus lymphocytes which increase with a viral challenge. Your vet should consider adding another antibiotic, in addition to the Doxycyline. Something broad spectrum, perhaps, like _. I also not the excellent news that the platelet count has actually doubled. This is really, really wonderful, and quite dramatic. The basophils are elevated which can happen with liver problems or may reflect an immune/allergic type response (along with mast cells). Overall, she is still looking pretty good, but I agree with your concern about wanting to wait a bit more on putting her back on the Winstrol/Doxycycline. On the other hand, your vet might be concerned about the slippage, and may not want to lose ground.
