Give Woodoo some time to get over being scared. Hunger and need for your

fault she was outside.

Ask the base police if you can borrow one trap for your cat and learn how to
use it. This is a better option then the base police trying to trap cats
for two reasons (1) they don't know your cat like you do so you can set up
the trap with food you cat likes and smells of home (perhaps paper towel
with your scent on it) and it can be near your door - this will result in
better success of trapping your cat (2) this avoids the base police setting
out traps for other cats.

Next time he comes around - and he probably will if he can find his

If possible keep a bowl of his favorite food on your steps/porch so even if
he stays out a little while he will get food. Also when you put the food
out make a big production of it by either banging the can a few times with
the spoon or rattling the bag so he knows it's there. Keep the house quiet
as possible and at night keep as many lights off as possible. Given how
spooked he is you may need to catch him in a trap to get him back inside -
keep food outside in the same place for him as this will be he location of
the trap if needed. If you do see him outside just you go out and sit
quietly to see if he comes up to you. If he does approach you just take a
minute or two to pet him just as if you were inside and when you can do it
easily (almost naturally as if you were inside) pick him up (hold him tight
as even though this it is you just picking him up may scare him) and bring
him inside. Not sure if you have other cats or if it is possible but if you
can leave a door open by the food you put out so he has a chance to just
slither back into the house on this own. Many positive thoughts are being
sent your way. Hugs, Elizabeth

Melinda,

My heart is breaking for you!! What comes to my mind first is for you to
leave wet food out and maybe that will coax him back to your door. Or maybe
you can get a trap somehow and put wet food in it to capture him.

Can you post a lost sign with his photo on it to inform the residents on the
base? Then you can receive a phone call when he is spotted.

I'm sure you will get him back, he's got to come around! You should be the
only one that looks for him and calls his name. Too many people at once will
probably scare him more.

These are just ideas off the top of my head. I feel for you, I really do!!

Keep the faith!

Re: [Felvtalk] VooDoo is missing

2011-06-24 Thread Natalie
I would do all of those thing, AND perhaps get an automatic trap with food
inside. If Voodoo comes to you, please scruff (just in case) and pick up at
the same time, because of being afraid. If you can lock away other cats, I
would definitely leave a door open. The problem might be, though, that
Voodoo might run out again when you come into that area, unless there's a
safe hiding place normally used by Voodoo.
The same thing happened to us when we lived in England, a guest kept the
door open too long and our cat Lucifer ran out. Can you imagine this crazy
American going around the neighborhood, calling Lucifer in the middle of the
night? I decided to call Lucy instead...after some deliberation.
We left the door open, I sat in a chair in the hallway, and he came back at
about 4 AM.
I bet he was under the hedges that surrounded the house all the time.
If there are any bushes around where you live, that might be the best bet to
look under.
Good luck! I'll be thinking of Voodoo and sending a message to go home!

Put a trap out, line it with newspaper and cover with a blanket or sheet.  Put
some food right outside the trap, leading up to it and in the back.   Also put
some of your dirty clothes around it as well as some of his dirty litter.  If
you have another cat that he is bonded with, put it in a carrier and place it
outside so that VooDoo can hear him/her crying.  Often that will bring them
out.

Well, around midnight I heard my other cat meow and looked outside. There was
a big yellow cat that I have seen hanging around a black cat. And, low and
behold there was the black cat too! However, if it was my VooDoo, he didn't
touch the food I left around front. Tonight I will try leaving the food in a
more obvious place. At least if it is him, he won't be hungry!

As for trapping, I am a bit at a disadvantage. We have a Japanese hardware
store in town, but I don't know if they have traps. Since I don't speak or
read Japanese, it may be difficult to find.

Our base police often put out traps to catch the strays. The problem is if I
ask them to help, I might be committing another kitty to a death sentence. On
base they put them to sleep after 72 hours. We don't have any kind of local
rescue at this time. I got some information from another base and want to see
if I can start some kind of foster/rescue program. There are strays here and
there around the base. Also, (I know you will all gasp) people move back to
the states and actually leave their babies! So, at this point, I hate to ask
for traps to be put out. Although, after another day or two his wellbeing will
be my first priority.

Could you look up a humane live trap online and show them a picture of it?

Well, around midnight I heard my other cat meow and looked outside. There
was a big yellow cat that I have seen hanging around a black cat. And, low
and behold there was the black cat too! However, if it was my VooDoo, he
didn't touch the food I left around front. Tonight I will try leaving the
food in a more obvious place.

The problem is if
I ask them to help, I might be committing another kitty to a death sentence.
On base they put them to sleep after 72 hours. We don't have any kind of
local rescue at this time. I got some information from another base and
want to see if I can start some kind of foster/rescue program. There are
strays here and there around the base. Also, (I know you will all gasp)
people move back to the states and actually leave their babies! So, at this
point, I hate to ask for traps to be put out. Although, after another day
or two his wellbeing will be my first priority.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions! ( I will check out the Facebook
groups to see if any of them are local and can help with our other issues!)

Thank you for all of the wonderful suggestions. As it is 11:00pm here in
Japan, and I didn't get but a couple hours of sleep last night, I am going
to bed. I've left open the door that VooDoo tried to come in last night.
There is a bowl of food and some water in the kitchen. He can hide a lot of
different places. Fortunately, I am able to lock off that area and keep
Fuji inside.

I'll keep you posted. I am hoping that the morning brings my kitty back
to me!

 Hello all,

It is with a very heavy heart that I am asking for some positive energy
from this group! My son's friend left a door open last night and my little
VooDoo escaped. He is terrified of being outdoors and all attempts to
capture him only scared him more! We live on a military base and there are
no wild animals to worry about and the speed limit on base is extremely
slow. My greatest concern is that around 2:00am, he tried to come home and
we absolutely scared him to death trying to get him to bring him inside.
(He hasn't been out since he came to us as a five week old kitten) I'm
worried that he might be afraid to come home.

It breaks my heart to think of my little kissing bandit, hungry, scared
and alone. He doesn't tolerate dry food well and I know some of the
residents where I suspect he is hiding puts it out for the few strays. This
is such a heavy burden for me and I am not taking it very well. Please just
send your positive thoughts our way.

 Thanks for listening.
