jennifer, lysine is for ALL species that have herpes-virus problems. humans with recurrent cold sores use it, and critters with eye/mouth problems from herpes use it, as well. some vet assn's suggest that ALL cats receive a daily supplement of lysine. it is very inexpensive if you buy it in bulk
