filmscanners: NIKON COOLSCAN 4500AF

Anybody have anything good or bad to say about this older scanner (NIKON COOLSCAN 4500AF)? I know very little about it. The tech sheet says it's capable of 35mm at 3000ppi, and 4x5 at 1000ppi, but it doesn't say what resolution it uses for medium format, though I suppose it's 1000ppi. Has anybody

Vuescan 6.6.3 wasn't embedding the chosen profile in JPEGs tonight (even with 'profile'=on) which made my efforts a bit of a hassle. I was using the reduced res option for "scan memory" while I adjusted parameters for a perfect crop file, while judging the trials with the JPEG opening

Yes - its a nice scanner, and the Canon Software is ok for getting it to do simple scanning jobs. With Vuescan I can get a lot more out of it though. Its getting 'old' now and Ive been expecting a new model or two from Canon but Im not sure of its current price range w.r.t other better models.

I believe the Canon FS2740 does have IR ... Doesn't have infrared, or at least mine doesn't.. hy else would Jack Phipps (ASF) give it a "thumbs up"??? Because for the price, it just about beats the socks anything near it's cost, and is at least equal to scanners twice it's price :)

You might do well to look at the LS-30 Nikon. Since it's being replaced, very good deals are becoming available on it, and it includes the infared channel for "ICE" and I have seen refurbished units for $499, although I have no experience with them. And right out of the box, it does incredible

Have the scan dual 11 am very satisfied with it but also have a problem with the computer recegnizing the scanner. The only way that it will start up is by turning it on and then dicconnecting the USB cable, and then reconnecting it. or turning on the scanner before booting up the comp. Dave
