the automatic alignment of the infrared and rgb passes will be released in beta 9 in the next day or so. Hi Ed, I believe similar techniques could be used to improve/enable multi-scanning on units with less than accurate alignment. This would certainly benefit many scanners. Is it practical

I suggest that the bottleneck in your workflow is the flatbed scanner. Although they are improving in terms of resolution, most are still suffering from low dynamic range, meaning they can't see into the shadows and highlights very well, especially with something as dense as true black and white
