The noisy sound when you turn the scanner on is normal. It goes through a self-test while the yellow light is blinking. What is not normal is when that blinking light stays blinking and doesn't become a steady light. You did see Tonys instructions on how to take your scanner apart and clean it, didn't you? It is very thorough. I have to admit, that I haven't gotten my nerve up to actually *do* it, despite the fact that the scanner sits there useless right now. One of these years I'll gather the nerve.
