This sounds like what happens when the Adaptect ASPI layer isn't installed.
It isn't built into Win2K, but does get installed automatically by, for
instance, the old Adaptec Easy CD Creator (now Roxio). I can't imagine how
installing Canon software would make this disappear, but it's possible to
