Rob is absolutely correct--both cost and user expectations (and available
time) are important factors when making a choice between SilverFast and
Vuescan or any technology for that matter.
The really nice part about Vuescan is it works extremely well with most
scanners. I was suprised to find tha

Which is great if you can justify the cost difference compared to the difference
in the results. I'm sure there are pros on the list who could, but I'm

I agree. Anyone who can't get good scans with Insight or SilverFast probably haven't learned how to use them. In the case of SilverFast, I can understand that. Vuescan isn't all that easy to use either, from what I've seen on this list.

You might wish to try version 5.5. Both Insight and SilverFast will produce
excellent scans. Insight is VERY easy to use and whilst SilverFast is
initially quite complex it has the capacity to pr

Mike,
I can't really comment as I don't have and have never used Silverfast. I
would suggest, though, download the trial of Vuescan and try it
(www.hamrick.com). It puts a watermark on it, but it will give you the
idea.
I'm a huge fan of Vuescan and use it for every scan I do.

I just received my new SS 4000, and am wondering the same thing.
Silverfast seems to be pretty powerful, but cumbersome. How does
it compare to Vuescan in quality (not just functionality)? I'm looking
for the best quality scans, with minimal fuss. The Polaroid software

Ok folks, now Polariod 4000, first film scanner! Have both provided software
packages, which one do I use, what are the differences. Scanning action ice
hockey photos into full version of photoshop.
Thanks, more questions will no doubt follow!
