Arthur, thank you for the excellent advice, but I'm not quite sure how to
make different exposures using Vuescan. Adjusting the Gamma didn't seem to
affect the blown out white; changing the white point to 0 didn't seem to
make a difference either. Am I missing something? How do I bring down
I have the exact same problem with Supra 400 - red and green speckles in
the shadows. Like you, I can't get them to disappear without blowing
away a lot of shadow detail. I don't know if a drum scan would solve
this or not - I've seen the same problem on both my SS4000 and my new
Yes W98 is totally fine here (I worried about this for a day or so, before
deciding to risk it). Nikon Scan 3.0 crashed 2 or 3 times over a few days.
3.1 has crashed about twice in 5 weeks or however long it is that I've been
round here.

What in particular are you looking for re using the Nikon IV with Win98? I
have heard of no problems on this list or any other - they work fine
together - and I currently use the Nikon LS-30 with Win98SE with no
problems.
As to Win98SE v. Win98B - move on up. Win98SE has no more and no less

Assuming there is detail on the film ;) one way is to scan in 16bits,

I had a similar problem with an epson-inkjet list message, so I'm
afraid its somehow related to Mitchell Leben's server(s).
I think your problem is banding. It's very common in the lower range
scanners. I've a feeling there's not much you can do except pay more money
for a dedicated tranny scanner. Thats my assuption. Here from the others
first!!!
