Separating the grain reduction from the cleaning processes would be the change that will finally get me to pay for Vuescan - I keep checking it every now and then waiting for the day that the advantages will be sufficient for me to open the wallet! (You've no idea how hard it is to remove

RE: filmscanners: Anyone using Win2K?

Yes, there may be many good reasons for jumping to Win2K, but if you have any unsupported software or 'legacy' hardware, it may not be the best decision at all.. I would much rather read a list of reasons NOT to upgrade, from an unbiased source, before leaping! If I want to know the good

Just a couple of quick comments.. 1. Cleaning neg's with water Bear in mind that if you use anything but 'unexposed' distilled water as a cleaning agent, you are in fact using carbonic acid..! I used to work in a oceanographic lab, and while checking the pH levels of a distilled water

While on this off-topic :), are many of you using the (dreaded!?) 870/1270 Epsons in a semi-pro or pro role, and have you or clients experienced those fading problems? I want to move to A3 width, and can't afford much more than the 1270.. Yes, I realise this is slipping off-topic, but my

Having just experimented with print resolutions using a very sharp Kodachrome 25 with lots of fine detail, I would agree with Bob's figures. I found that I could push the print resolution down to 140 dpi before I began to detect a noticeable difference in the prints when viewed at about 30cm

RE: filmscanners: JPEG Loss - File format

Maybe it's because it is Friday pm here:), but the explanation below doesn't sound right to me. The losses to the image occur when you *save* it.. (So sure, if you just keep *re-saving* that same on-screen file, the image won't degrade further - but why would you do that?) But as soon as
