P.S.
When I finally buy a MF film scanner, this will most probably be the Minolta
Multi Pro, but since it's said to work poorly with negatives, I have no
choice but use VueScan. I hope that my that time
? ;-)
I'm interested in most straightforward and effective method of calibrating
my system, without resorting to expensive hard- or software.
I do not intend to clutter this list with unnecessary OT mails so if you can
give link to sites devoted to this topic, this will me ok for me.

Anyway, coming back to my initial question: will I get good neg scan from
Minolta Multi Pro?

that neither acetate nor pergamin sleeves should be
used as the are not archival. Polyethylen or polypropylen are better and
Mylar is the best.
I'm looking for reasonable advices. I don't want to follow the route "but
the most expensive material and you're on the safe side".

P.S.
I'd choose Canon FS4000 but I made a test and it exagerrates even minor film
imperfections, much more than Nikons and Microteks. Also FARE does strange
things sometimes.

What can I do now? Will simple weighing with books suffice? Should I
increase humidityin my room? (at the moment I have 35% humidity due to
heating with radiators). What else can I do?

I used the word 'curl' which I'm not sure is correct.
My filmstrips are bended in the direction from top to bottom of the frame,
not from 1st frame to 6th.

recently tested Nikon 4000ED / Canon FS4000U and chose Nikon as the better
machine. Now I only have to compare Nikon to Polaroid or rather Microtek
ArtixScan 4000T which is available in good price in my country, unlike Pola.

consider buying the Polaroid since in Poland, where I live, they're
too expensive and service is not available. But Microteks 4000T are
available, I only don't know how they compare to Nikons and Canons.

I would be grateful is somebody helped me to find the way to get information

That's the economy of today, sadly.

using ZIP compression the file was 95MB-that doesn't surprise me as I
know .tif files don't compress well. But 125MB! :-) I didn't expect that.

that neither Epson nor Agfa are good enough for
scanning negatives. The denser parts of the emulsion are too big a barrier
for the CCD elements of the scanners. It results in lack of details in white
areas.

"jerks" (I'm afraid I'm afraid I might not find the proper word).
My simple question is: is it the monitor or rather the graphic card at
fault?
My monitor is LG Flatron 795FT Plus my graphic card, hmm... don't know, some
card is Riva TNT2 M64 32MB AGP.

Yes, only better. And flourescents. Wonderful! :)

that at
printing stage I get quite neutral black, not blueish. Unfortunately this

If I were to choose between sharpness and noise levels I'd choose sharpness.
But I have to state once again that I don't wkon what's the effect and
visibility of noise in real life pictures on photographic paper or from an

From my experience I can tell that it's better for most negatives (bw and
color) to expose 1/3 stop more than the ISO rating. You're always on te
safer side when the exposure meter makes a mistake. And by looking at the
negatives, the a little denser ones appear "better" to me.

(flatbed) and there's no SilverFast for

But since the HDR version is not Twain related, it can be used with every

Another issue is the cost of a separately bought scanning software.

Right now my conclusion is that the home filmscannig technology is still
immature.
And the flatbed technology? A huge gap between what's promised and what's in

Do Nikon filmscanners come with special colour profiles for scanning
different colour negatives? Somebody told they don't. In that case, how can
I automatically remove the orange mask?
What about the new Nikon scanners?
