you leave only the staff ID numbers. Perhaps scores created with the Wizard do
this automatically, and that is why you might not have seen
Hi Randolph,
Does the odd expression placement behavior in 2009/2010 happen with files that
have a lot of measure attached dynamic expressions? Or does it happen with
both measure and note attached expressions?
There's a few things we can do to make that transition easier.

It seems that converted (older) files are involved when you have to
re-create groups after generating parts. I am glad to know Chuck's
trick but groups created in new files seem to behave properly in
linked parts.

Good day:
I recently "upgraded" from MS Office 2000 to 2007. I use Word to
create my edition's critical reports, which routinely include
screenshots of the manuscripts. I insert these as tiffs. with a
caption under the tiff that's generated within a text box, which I

Yes, Chris. This has not yet bitten me, but I can imagine that it would be a
pain. For what I do most of the time, this system is fine. I wonder how it
could be done differently so control would be more transparent. Perhaps a
check box to link staves into a group part?

If this one appears correctly in your email viewer, perhaps you can
cut and paste it:

yes. very dumb.
i name all staves but hide staff names accordingly so that i know
what they are in lists like the manage parts thingy. i mean "HARP
RH" tells me a little more than "Staff 42", y'know?
not sure what the logic is in this functionaliity...

I don't remember if it was the same in 10.4, but in 10.5 and 10.6, you can use
the Character Viewer in most apps. If you don't see the menu bar icon in the
upper right (to the left of the date/time), you can turn the icon on in System

So, if you have

as one staff name, and
Ten.

as the other, you STILL have to manually create the darned group in
the linked chorus part? Or trumpet 1 and 2 in separate staves on the
same part, as is common in shows? And split string desks, etc.?

re: P symbol for “sound recording copyright”. Where is it?
In iTunes (v. 9.0.2), under Edit, one finds the sub-menu “Special Characters”.
The symbol for “sound recording copyright” is on the list. I can’t figure out
how use this symbol in iTunes, MS Word (purchased MS Word in 2004 with previous
Easy, when you know the trick. Do not give staff names to the RH and
LH staves, and it will extract as a group.

Create a part for the treble staff and add the bass staff to it.
