Hi Chuck,
Thanks for reaching out with your requests. I and others at MakeMusic
subscribe to this list and have been following the thread. I subscribe in
digest form and read every update.
I'm sorry you are disappointed with the new Finale. We are aware of the
printing issues are are working to
wasn't aware of igor's linked parts, but i
actually meant revolutionary in the finale realm,
not in the larger scheme of notation software. :-)

Thanks, good to know that there was one drawback to never upgrading.:-)

A long time ago I stopped using the tempo tool because it seemed to, at times,
conflict with the general tempo last assigned.. and is not visible; switched to
assigning tempo markings to individual notes to make subtle adjustments that
persist until the next tempo marking change.. especially
Hi jef,
Nice to get a thoughtful and communicative reply.
Frustrations aside, friends I have made through this list remain a fulfilling
part of my life, and I wouldn’t miss that for anything, even if the
communication often comes through mutual frustration with Finale.
Let’s just keep up

It’s functionality here copied Igor Engraver which had linked parts from the
start, way before Finale.
Finale’s still do not work as well.

seriously?
fer f*kk sakes, another thing they managed to screw up and get users
to pay for them to do so

WHT?!?!?! never. not me, no way!

that is an OS trick, otherwise known in finale as a "workaround"

Hah! Jef, no you haven’t, but I do appreciate that there may be some deserved
sarcasm in your message.
I have been a Finale user since v 1.0 (it cost something like $1000 when it was
first released, if I remember correctly, and that probably translates into
quite a bit more in today’s
I hope you will forward the extracted parts scenario to MM. You basically
have to type every name twice: once in the print db and then again in
Finder to remove the "- Score".
FWIW: I never use voiced parts. (The lack of Special Tools support in the
parts is a deal-breaker.) What I do is link in
There is a little trick it took me a long time to discover, that in a mac print
dialogue (save as pdf) where there is a prompt for the file name you can click
on any file name in the active window, even if it is greyed out, and it
auto-inserts the name of the file you've clicked on - sometimes
Yes, it adds “ - Score” to the name. I was reprinting parts from a pre-2007
project, which didn’t have linked parts.
Also, I suppose you know this, that any parts with grace notes in them need to
be extracted when they are two to a staff, because the grace notes don’t space
correctly in voiced
When you create the PDF for the extracted part, does it append text like "-
Score" to the name you typed?
You are correct that foor extracted parts you are SOL. May also I ask why
you use them instead of linked parts?

I haven't yet tried the 25 demo. Frankly, I'm reluctant and even a little
afraid.
But in response to Lee Actor's question, I would be extremely distressed if the
Tempo Tool has been eliminated, unless all of its functionality has been put
somewhere equally accessible!
At least on my version
That only seems to work for linked parts. Extracted parts I have to type each
one separately (which is what I was doing all day yesterday! Urg.)

If it's any consolation, if you pdf more than one part/score at a time you
only have to type over "Untitled" once.
Personally, I'm using 14.5 for printing until/if this mess is resolved.
