Actually, I wrote my suggestion immediately after your query posted - but
for some reason, it was held up in moderation for - well, nearly a full
day! Ah well. Glad the problem was resolved, Lawrence. And now: THIS

Thank you, it's sorted now I think - it was, as several have suggested, the
default "instrument ranges" that needed to be unchecked.

This probably has something to do with the way the new Finale handles note
entry at concert pitch instead of transposed pitch. For instance, bass violin
notes now enter at their real pitches but get written an octave higher. Kind
of confusing, but there are ways to set
