Thanks everyone for the advice. It looks like the preference is MAC,
Windows 7 and finally 8, but no overriding problems with compatibility
for any of them.

I have been considering upgrading Finale (still using 2009) and with the
demise of support for XP, will need to upgrade that first. Does anyone
have any comments / observations on the usability of Windows 7 versus 8
or 8.1 or if I should even jump ship, and get a new machine running MAC?

Windows 8 is HORRIBLE. Microsoft deserves to go out of business because
of this one. The metro user interface is horrendous. Only a complete
corporate idiot could believe that users actually want to have a cell
phone interface on their desktop.
