I've had this problem a lot. You can grab as many measures as you want, then go to Mass Edit, Note Spacing, and choose whichever spacing you like. I've had to do this so many times that I finally made a kind of "macro" using TG Tools' menu shortcuts. That too will save you lots of headaches.
