Hi Darcy,
It turns out that what I said in my last post is, in fact, exactly  
what I did:


1. show fretboards (fretboard appear for every chord - so you're  
right, it is global)
2. turn off fretboards you don't want one by one in the chord  
definitive dialogue box.


There might be an easier way, but I'm not aware of it. If anyone else  
knows a better way, let me know.

In the old days, I used to create custom fretboards in the shape designer,
assembling them with Seville font characters. For just a couple, that might
still be a viable option depending on the size of your score.

Thanks, to all who contacted me both on and off list. My problem has been  
solved and this gave me a chance to use my new Finale 2009. I never got  
Finale to process the MIDI files (seemed to want them to be in XML format  
or something), but the MUS files saved the day!

them to appear and do Utilities--Change--Chord Assignments and  
uncheck fretboards?
