Hi,
I'm currently transcribing a piece which includes lots of
semiquavers/demi-semiquavers (don't know what that is in American).
Using speedy entry, as I type in the notes they all scrunch together so
that I can't read what I'm writing.
Is there any way I can stop this happening as I type as
Hi Lawrence, have you tried increasing the width of the bar (in Measure
Attributes with the measure tool) before you enter any notes? A width of
1200 EVPUs should make your job easier. The width will be corrected when
you space the music. Use scroll view, as measure widths are scrunched to
Hi Peter,
Thanks - everything's happening like you said - works beautifully until I
switch to another stave, then it corrects itself so that I have the same
problem again. Is there a way to fix the width change until a expressly
ask it to correct? I'm sure there must be and I'm missing it.

programme prefs (cmd-, on mac) / edit / automatic settings
- uncheck auto music spacing

Hm, that doesn't happen to me. Maybe there's a setting somewhere -
Automatic Update Layout comes to mind immediately, I always have that turned
off. Or possibly there's a setting in the Speedy menu? I'm still using
FinWin2005 and there's been some major changes since then! :)
Hi Peter,
Yes, Jef suggested that and between you both you've solved the problem for
me,
Thanks.

Using Finale 2008...
In 4/2 time, how do I center a double whole rest in a measure. I was
able to do that years ago, but have forgotten how.

So I see. After I started the reply my wife made me go out in the garden to
deal with a dead baby deer of all things (got at by a fox I imagine). I
posted my message about 15 minutes later and then I saw Jef's - grr.
Anyway, I'm glad you're sorted.
Peter
Yes, Jef suggested that and
Cheers Peter - we don't have problems with dead baby deer in Manchester.

Yes, that must be a problem. I find even 32nd notes to scrunch up so they are
impossible to read until you finish the measure.
Help, anybody?

A while back, I had hidden the abbreviated staff name - right click on
the name handle, and select Hide. Months later, I've changed my mind,
and I want the abbreviated staff name to appear, but there's no handle
anymore to right click on to make it appear. I've also tried selecting

It's not easy to spot, but a careful reading of the Staff Attributes should
reveal a box labled Force Hide or something like that. Be sure it is
unchecked.

Thanks. Tried it, but it affects the staff, not the staff abbreviated name.
Sorry.
