That's what it looks like but I don't know how. Nor do I know which font was
originally used so that I can re-install it. As I said, to the best of my
knowledge I have made no changes.

First of all, try running Disk Maintenance... Font Utilities under Data Check
(or it might be a different name in 2008.) You will get a list of fonts Finale
was expecting to find, but didn't.
Then try reinstalling fonts from the install disc (Choose Custom install).

I am on Mac, but I think the approaches are quite similar.
My suggestions may be cumbersome, but they should save you the integrity of
your files.
Only open locked files until the problem has been resolved. Purpose: to prevent
file information from adapting to the present unfortunate situation
