My solution for now I created a new instrument in the instrument list
(and named it "FinaleChords") on a separate MIDI channel from the staff
with the chord symbols. Then assigned "Chords" in that staff to that
instrument/MIDI channel and set the volume to 0. I don't even need to mute

Placing a chord symbol on a staff with regular notated notes causes certain
tied notes to not play. I'm only experiencing this with one particular
chord symbol. However, depending on which upper extensions are in the
suffix, different tied notes will be cancelled - sometimes all.
