[Finale] Finale/Windows on the Mac

2013-10-22 Thread Jari Williamsson
Hello!

I'm planning to get a new portable computer and I'm thinking of a
MacBook Pro with Parallels Desktop to run Finale plug-ins in the Windows
environment. I know that this is a configuration most users don't have,
but has anyone here run Finale/Windows on Parallels Desktop with good
results?

Best regards,

Jari Williamsson

2013-10-22 Thread Robert Patterson
I do software development using Fusion (which I think is basically the same
as Parallels). You should expand your physical memory so that both OS's
have enough to run comfortably at the same time. I have not encountered any
incompatibilities with Fusion, but I suspect the same would be true of
Parallels. You can set up a shared drive so that you only have one copy of
source code.

Another advantage, at least of Fusion, is that in addition to setting up a
virtual Windows, you can also set up a virtual MacOS 10.6 (Snow Leopard).
Recently I've been using that more than Windows, so that I can occasionally
run programs compiled for PPC (like my outdated Windows compiler: hah!).
Apple permits virtualization of Snow Leopard Server, and they started
selling the Server package for just $20.

[Finale] Finale 2001 Windows - both rhythmic and slash notation in the same measure - why is it not possible

2013-10-22 Thread Marcello Noia
Hi, could be that my brain is tilting, but I remember I could put in a
measure both slash and
rhythmic notation, why Finale 2011 tells me This style (slash) can only
be applied to full measures?
I have to fill in a 4/4 bar the first half with two slashes, the second
half with one dotted quarter and one eight in rhythmic.
How can I do that?
Thanks

That makes no sense to me. I do this all the time, and the only problem I come
up against is that note-attached smart shapes disappear when I put in slash
notation in the same bar with a slur.

Could it be that the staff style in question has things in it that AREN'T just
slash or rhythmic notation? Check it to be sure.

[Finale] Finale Compatibility for Mavericks

2013-10-22 Thread Dean Rosenthal
Hello:

Run a very quaint version of Finale 2009c - if anyone on this list still
has the old version, could they say if they've had any problems with
upgrading Mac Os X past Snow Leopard? I'd like to download Mavericks and
this is the one app. that I wouldn't want to mess with - and Mathematica.
I've already done the requisite Google and MakeMusic site searches,
they've yielded some information, but none as good as anecdotal. Any input
appreciated.

Thanks,
Dean
