Re: [Finale] Emergency help

2014-08-13 Thread John Witmer
Hey Justin,
OK, partial success. Deleting the ini files allowed Finale to recognise my
Roland.
However, at first only the simple entry method worked, but after playing around
a little with the midi controls
I got the speedy entry to work again.
Thank you for all your help.

If you go to the MIDI/Audio Menu Device Setup MIDI Setup, is your
Roland/MIDI interface showing as an available device?

  If not, try this first:

  1) Close Finale

  2) Shut down your PC and turn off your Roland

  3) Verify your USB/MIDI cables are still connected properly

  4) Turn the Roland back on then turn the computer back on. Launch Finale and
see if Finale recognizes it.

If not, try the following. This will reset your preferences for Finale but
will not impact any of your files.

  1) Close Finale then open a Windows Explorer window. Turn on Hidden Files and
Folders by going to the Tools menu Folder and Search Options View Tab and
check Show Hidden Files and Folders.

  2) Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\(Your User Name)\Application
Data\MakeMusic\Finale 2012

  3) Locate the files named Finale.ini and Finmidi.ini. Drag these to the
Trash.

  4) Reboot your PC and re-launch Finale. You should be prompted on open to
re-select your MIDI preferences. Select the appropriate setup then see if
Finale recognizes the device again.

Finale had lost my specialized templates.
Can anyone suggest a fix. I need to transcribe some music ASAP.

[Finale] How do I get playback to skip some measures???

2014-08-13 Thread Raymond Horton
How do I get playback to skip some measures???

WinFin 2014, or 2012, either or both:

I want to put some cuts in for playback but leave those measures in the
score. I've tried the repeat tool, which, I thought, ws the way that I had
done this in the past. No options for jumping in expressions.

What am I missing???

For me the simplest method would be about making a renamed copy of the file.
And then just delete the bars of the jump.

[Finale] Need to show resting section staff in solo passage?

2014-08-13 Thread Ryan Beard
In a work for string orchestra, I have a passage with 4 solo first violins, and
the rest of the section in resting.

I have included 4 staves in the score for the first violins and will hide the
empty staves when I lay out the rest of the score. These four staves will be
included in the Violin I part.

Do I need to have a fifth staff with rests to show that the rest of the section
is not playing this passage? Or are the current four sufficient with the staves
labelled as solo for this passage?

This most likely is due to a bug in Finale's Auto Update Layout feature.
You can usually work around the problem by turning off Auto Update Layout.
Auto Update Layout causes a substantial performance hit, so learning to
work without it is not necessarily bad.
